Acting Through Song Workshop

Song preparation for auditions with director and dramaturg Kate Golledge

This musical theatre centred workshop will focus mainly on song preparation for auditions; what a panel might be looking for, how to choose material, what kind of songs might be in your rep, how to prepare so that you can feel confident to deliver at your best. We will talk about character and journey in song, how best to use clues in the text and the music to construct a performance, and how to truly feel inside a character when singing.

Participants who book a singing place are asked to bring an audition song to work on with Kate and the group, receiving individual feedback and guidance and the chance to rehearse their piece with an accompanist. Participants who book an observing place will not be singing but will be able to ask questions and join the discussions.

Kate Golledge is a director and dramaturg specialising in new musicals. She has recently directed work at the New Wolsey Theatre, The Union, The Other Palace and Jermyn Street Theatre, as well as a series of new musicals for Singapore Repertory Theatre. As associate director she has worked on the Wizard of Oz at the London Palladium, Sweet Charity at the Menier Chocolate Factory/Theatre Royal Haymarket and Educating Rita at Trafalgar Studios.

If you are booking a singing place: Please bring a short audition song or excerpt from an audition song to work on (no longer than 90 seconds) and bring sheet music for your song. There are places for seven singers in the workshop.

Tall Stories aims to keep the fees for workshops as low as possible and fees are charged only to cover costs.
