Being a Dramaturg (Online with Lauren Mooney)
Across three weeks, this short workshop series will function as an overview of dramaturgy and what it means to work as a dramaturg. We’ll cover scripted dramaturgy, including how to read critically, the noting process, and how to develop new work and support early career writers; dramaturgy in a non-traditional theatre process, with a particular focus on devising; and how to work creatively and collaboratively as a dramaturg.
As a small group, working together across three weeks, there will be space to talk about your own interest in and experiences with dramaturgy, and the workshops will be tailored to fit the expertise and experiences of the group. There will be time to discuss practical ways to gain more experience and develop your creative muscles, as well as looking at an overview of the role and development of the dramaturg in the UK theatre ecology. The workshops are suitable for a range of practitioners, including early career dramaturgs, those with no experience but who are interested to discover more, and directors with an interest in working with or as dramaturgs, especially as part of a collaborative process.
