Costume Centre (Thurrock)

The Bob and Tamar Manoukian Costume Centre in Thurrock produces costumes, designed by independent costume designers, for the Royal Opera House`s new productions of opera and ballet. The Centre also contains the costume store which houses the frequently performed repertoire as well as available stock for new productions. We offer work experience placements to individuals interested in pursuing a career in costume construction.

Placement description

You will be involved in the work of the costume workroom and contribute to the construction of costumes for opera and/or ballet. You may also have the opportunity to gain insight into the costume store; the organisation and cataloguing of stock and helping with packing and moving of costumes between the Costume Centre in Thurrock and the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.

During the placement you will apply and improve upon your existing knowledge and practical skills, whilst gaining experience as a fully involved member of a professional workroom environment.

Minimum Entry Requirements

- Aged 18+

- In the 2nd/3rd year of a costume construction course (or with an equivalent level of training/experience)

Selection Criteria

Applicants should be able to demonstrate their experience of good hand and machine sewing skills. An interest in period and/or ballet costume is an advantage but not essential.
