Everyman & Playhouse Directors’ Programme

The Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse Directors’ Programme offers two emerging theatre directors the opportunity to develop their practice and understanding of mid-scale theatre over a year-long attachment.

Overview

The programme supports directors through professional masterclasses, paid R&D work, production observation, and development opportunities across the organisation.

What the programme includes

Selected directors will receive:

  • Professional masterclasses with in-house and freelance practitioners
  • Funded R&D week with actors and a creative collaborator
  • Paid directing work with Young Everyman & Playhouse (YEP), including staged readings and workshops
  • Observation of rehearsals, production processes, and internal company meetings
  • Training and paid work as a script reader
  • Additional studio development time for workshops and rehearsals
  • Theatre trips, discounted tickets, and guest night access
  • A £250 bursary for professional development

Where appropriate, participants will also be signposted to further paid work and development opportunities.

Who it’s for

The programme is aimed at emerging directors with a clear commitment to theatre directing who can demonstrate:

  • Professional theatre-making experience (including fringe, profit-share or independent work)
  • Experience across the full production process
  • Facilitation skills in rehearsal, workshop or similar contexts

Experience may come from directing, acting, dramaturgy, or related roles. Formal directing training is not required.

Applications are made via an online form, with shortlisted candidates invited to interview. Applicants must also provide a CV and confirm availability for YEP Writers’ Showcase activity. Equal opportunities information is collected separately.

Requirements

Applicants must be 18+ and based in Liverpool City Region.
