Introduction to Puppetry (Online)
Welcome to our Introduction to Puppetry workshop. This workshop has been designed for GCSE and A Level students taking part in our Schools Club programme, but anyone with an interest in puppetry is welcome to take part. This workshop was written by Puppet Maker and Performer Maia Kirkman-Richards and Director Eduard Lewis. Over the course of this workshop, you will have the chance to create your own prototype rehearsal puppet and bring it to life. You will also have a go at creating a scene for your puppet inspired by a classic fairytale.
If you are delivering this workshop in a classroom, we have included a suggested length for each activity but if you are working on your own, you can take as long as you like.
Maia has created a series of short video introductions, after which you will find a creative exercise for you to try. Before we begin you will need a few resources to take part in this workshop. You will need a pen or pencil and a notebook to write down your ideas, three sheets of scrap paper or an old newspaper and masking tape.
If you get stuck and need any assistance you can contact us via email. Remember, this workshop isn’t about getting things right, it’s about your artistic ideas. Good luck and have fun.
