Experience Opportunity

Live Playwriting

Do you want to be a playwriting voice of the future?

We are now open to applications from North East artists interested in writing for the stage.

To help you on this journey we offer Live Playwriting.

This friendly and informal course is an introduction to playwriting aimed at those at the beginning of their playwriting journey. The course explores some of the key aspects of writing a play for the stage as well as lifting the lid on the theatre industry and how writers get their plays on stage.

Hosted by Live Theatre’s creative team with workshops lead by a list of some of the best contemporary theatre writers of our generation, this 10-week course covers everything it takes to write a play, including workshops on storytelling, plot, character, dialogue and theatricality.

Throughout the 10 weeks, you will also develop and write a first draft of a fifty minute stage play, receiving feedback from Live Theatre’s team and a rehearsed reading of the work at the end of the course.
