The Practice Room: For Working Actors (with Olivier Award Winner, Donnacadh O’Briain)
The Practice Room is a space for working actors to practice their craft outside of the pressures of jobs and auditions, to work with other experienced actors, and to explore character and text. The shared objective in the room is to be challenged, to stay fresh, and to build and maintain immediacy, spontaneity and connection to impulse.
Donnacadh curates and leads the sessions, focussing on a selected play. Bringing together a wide range of influences, Donnacadh’s unique actor centric approach to early rehearsals provides a structure and a methodology, with huge freedom and opportunity to take risks and play. When he’s in rehearsal/production periods the sessions are led by actors from within a small group of experienced regular members.
The Practice Room addresses the lack of genuine spaces for working actors. Training is everywhere, practice isn’t. So this is a space for actors who’s training is principally behind them.
The sessions are always ‘drop in’, and a regular might come every week, once a month or take months out to film or rehearse.
Sessions are Pay What You Can, to ensure that actors have the flexibility to pay more when they can, and less when they can’t.
They will run at Wildcard Studios, 18 Balderton St, Mayfair, London, W1K 6TG on: Mondays 2:30pm – 5:30pm
Actors are welcome to come in and warm up from 2pm.
(If a session is booked out, you can contact Donnacadh directly to go on the waiting list – places do come up)
