Experience Opportunity

Trainee Dramaturg

This placement is for anyone with an interest in developing their dramaturgical skills – a playwright, a director, theatre maker, actor, administrator, producer, budding dramaturg or anyone else with an interest in this area of work. You do not need to have any experience working directly as a dramaturg, though an interest in new work for performance is essential.

Diversity is essential to a thriving cultural sector and we aim to work actively with artists from a range of different backgrounds. Because they are currently underrepresented, we strive to increase applications from and representation from artists:

- Working in Gaelic, Scots or BSL

- Based outside the central belt of Scotland

- From the Global Majority

- Who are disabled

- From socio-economically deprived backgrounds

- Who are female, trans or non-binary

Work will include:

- observing and supporting dramaturgical processes around our core work with writers

- assisting with the running of workshops, events and projects

- tailored support to develop the dramaturgical skills most important to you

The placement offers a learning opportunity through direct involvement across Playwrights’ Studio’s activity. Throughout the placement, there will be the opportunity to learn from playwrights and other theatre professionals. The Trainee will in turn develop some of the skills and experience needed to begin a career in dramaturgy, or to continue developing their dramaturgical practice in whatever role they choose to pursue.

Deadline for applications: 1pm on Monday 3 April 2023
