Experience Opportunity

Writing Poetry for Beginners

This two-day course will equip you with a number of different skills to approach poetry writing, reading modern poetry and exercise your imagination.

Put pen to paper, let your imagination roam wild and create poems to be proud of* with this delicious two-day poetry writing course, led by London writer Annie Hayter.

Working with Annie, you'll use a range of creative stimuli, including artwork, photographs and songs, to delve into the depths of your imagination, and unfurl your dreaming on the page...

Maybe you want to write about something that really matters to you; whether that's climate change, your favourite popstar, or whatever's bugging you these days. Maybe you're a big fan of the full moon - or your pet dog Ian - or that new show on Netflix. Perhaps you've always wondered what it would be like to be a tree... Or perhaps you're thinking deeply about the world today, and your place within it.

Whatever you feel like writing about, this course will be a space for you to freely express yourself, and bring your experiences to life in a room with other like-minded souls.

*A poem of your choice will be published in a digital poetry anthology and you'll have the opportunity to read your work at a showcase with the other young writers.

Who is this course for? Anyone aged 13–17, who wants to write poetry and is open to exploring different forms of creative expression.
