BBC Young Dancer
BBC Young Dancer was first staged in 2015 and normally takes place every two years. With the emergence of Covid 19 this next edition was delayed and will now run through 2021, with the Final taking place in early 2022.
This edition of BBC Young Dancer 2022 comes with the introduction of a brand-new format and is open to all genres of dance. We’re still looking forward to receiving entries from dancers from the original categories (Ballet, Contemporary, South Asian Dance and Street Dance) but wanted to make this opportunity open to more people. You still need to enter as a solo dancer and if you progress there will be a further three competitive stages to the contest.
This new format builds on two foundation elements at the heart of the first three editions – mentoring and creative development. Dancers will also have the opportunity to meet, work with and learn from fellow dancers from different dance genres.
All dancers who progress beyond the second stage will have the opportunity to work with and be mentored by leading dance professionals and be involved in the creation of new work.
BBC Young Dancer will be broadcast on BBC television and everyone who progresses to Stage 2 should expect to be filmed (although there is no guarantee of broadcast).
You will need to enter as a solo dancer and be aged 16–21. For disabled dancers the age range is between 16-25.
