Festival-Family Encounters Commission - Open Call
We are pleased to be partnering with Glasgow Life, the National Museum of Scotland and Platform to commission three new performance pieces for Family Encounters, which will take place on the first day of the Festival on 7 May 2022. Two of the commissions will go on to perform at Merchant City Festival (July 2022) and Platform’s Family Day events (late July 2022).
This is the first of two call-outs related to Family Encounters at the Edinburgh International Children’s Festival 2022. This call-out is to find three brand-new commissions with a budget of between £4,000 and £7,000. Your idea should not have been fully produced before (work that has been scratched, or presented as a work-in-progress is eligible), and should be of a larger-scale or ambition. The second call-out will happen early next year, and will be suitable for work that has been previously produced and is of a smaller-scale, including pop-up performances, walkabouts, or smaller interactive pieces.
At least one commission in this call-out will go to Black, East Asian, South Asian, BPOC+ artists, or artists and companies from the global majority. You will be able to indicate in your application form if this applies to you.
Please apply using this application form. There will be space to write about the performance idea, availability and suitability for the individual commissions. All applications will be considered by a panel, and selected artists/companies will have the opportunity to work with the commission partners to finalise a budget and a production plan.
We’d like to make this process as accessible as possible. If an application form is a barrier for you then please get in touch with Imaginate Assistant Producer Isy Sharman and we can arrange a video/audio application for you. We can also cover access costs for a pre-application discussion with the team at Imaginate, so please get in touch if you would be interested in this.
Deadline: 5 December, 6pm.
