Resident Artists Scheme 2021-22

We are very excited to announce our new Resident Artists Scheme at Tobacco Factory Theatres. We are looking for four freelance theatre makers to join us as Resident Artists and start a 10 month-long collaboration with us.

We are now looking for four freelance theatre makers to join Tobacco Factory Theatres as Resident Artists, for a 10 month-long collaboration starting in October 2021.

Through this collaboration, our aim is that both the artists and our organisation will learn, imagine and change in ways we couldn’t have done otherwise.

Each Resident Artist will receive:

– £2500 towards a project or their ongoing artistic development

– At least one uninterrupted week of studio time (if required) and first priority in accessing other shorter studio slots

– A chance to scratch or perform their work in front of an audience (if desired)

– Regular access to our office and wider building for their ongoing work

– Priority access to available time slots in our meeting spaces

– The opportunity to shadow Tobacco Factory Theatres’ team members and learn from all areas of the work we do

– Tailored, supportive mentoring from at least one of our Arts Team directors

– Complimentary tickets to all theatre shows presented at TFT

– Expenses-paid opportunities to see shows elsewhere and contribute to our programming process

– Complimentary access to all Artist Masterclasses

Each artist will offer:

– Feedback, ideas, scrutiny and questions regarding the programme, planning and organisational development at Tobacco Factory Theatres

– Attendance at away days, press nights, fundraisers and other organisational events

– A workshop or event, sharing your practice with our young people’s or community theatre groups and another session with our staff team

Who we're looking for:

– Artists for whom performing arts is their primary discipline

– Artists who want to make a difference to Bristol’s communities and cultural life

– Artists whose values connect with ours (see above)

– Artists with at least 3 years of professional experience in their field

– Artists who haven’t benefited significantly from similar opportunities previously / elsewhere

– Artists residing in Bristol and surrounding areas (i.e. 30 mile radius & able to travel to our building regularly)

– Artists with an interest in provoking, questioning and challenging the theatre industry (and a venue like ours!)

We welcome applications from artists of all backgrounds. A particular priority for us this year is to collaborate with artists whose identities have been traditionally under-represented in theatre. To this end, we will guarantee interviews for artists who meet all the above criteria and identify as: Global Majority artists, artists who identify as d/Deaf, artists who identify as disabled and artists who identify as working class or Benefit class.

Apply by 12 noon on Mon 27 September 2021
