BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Production Arts (Technical Theatre)

Do you have a love of the arts but prefer to be behind the scenes? If you’ve ever fancied a career in the performance industry but want to stay out of the limelight, this course is perfect for you.

During your time on this two year programme, you will have the opportunity to explore technical theatre through a range of specialist areas including Theatre Production from The Historical Context of Performance, Production Planning and Production Performance, Front of House management and Operations, Events Management to the more technical side such as Stage Management, Stage Technical Maintenance, Stage Lighting Design and Operation, Stage Sound Design and Live Sound for the Stage.

You will develop practical skills and gain a wider understanding of the Performing Arts industry as well as having the opportunity to work alongside our Performing Arts students on many productions with elements such as lighting and sound being key disciplines explored throughout the qualification.

There is high demand for technical theatre careers so your study programme will incorporate a range of work related experience activities to ensure you have the breadth of skills required to prepare you for a move towards university, an apprenticeship or industry employment.

As part of your study programme you also get the opportunity to complete a maths and/or English GCSE if you have not already achieved a grade 4 or above.

Learner Engagement is at the core of this course and you will help to produce lots of events and performances. There will be an optional residential element to the course in the second year and educational visits covering all aspects of theatre production will take place throughout the course.
