Stepping Up

Interested in acting, creative leadership or supporting others to learn?

Stepping Up is a free 3-month accredited acting and leadership training programme, run by National Youth Theatre in partnership with The JGA group. It offers participants the opportunity to gain a Level 2 Certificate in Progression (Acting or Leadership).

Applications are open now for our next cohort, running from October 2022 to mid-January 2023!

Stepping Up has two pathways that train side-by-side over 3 months at NYT’s studios on Holloway Road on Mondays (half-day), Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Acting Pathway:

For those who do not yet have a Level 3 qualification, who are new to performing or who want to increase their confidence. The personal development units include building self-confidence and study skills alongside the performance units in Physical Theatre, Improvisation and Rehearsal Skills.

(To be eligible for the Acting Pathway, you cannot hold a Level 2 or above qualification in drama or acting, such as Drama GCSE).

Leadership Pathway:

For those with some experience in theatre or applied theatre projects in the past, and have an interest in becoming drama facilitators in the future. This pathway supports you to increase your knowledge of planning and delivering drama workshops as well as inclusive practice.

To be eligible for Stepping Up you must be:

• Living at a London address

• Be currently unemployed and not in education
