Experience Opportunity

Community theatre practice: Engaging with communities

Elevate is a skills-building programme from acta Community Theatre for socially engaged theatre-makers, artists, community organisers and campaigners interested in working creatively with communities.

This practical, explorative workshop will explore:

  • The importance and impact of working with communities from different cultural backgrounds
  • Approaches to engaging different communities, including using English-as-an-additional-language workshops as a gateway
  • Different methods and exercises for community-engaged work
  • How to adapt approaches for groups with different needs
  • Examples from past acta projects, including short films
