Production placements are on of National Theatre's career development initiatives. They aim to provide opportunities for those currently underrepresented in the theatre workforce.

Production Placements aim to build on the existing skill level or experience of the placement, ensuring the opportunity offers the most impact wherever they are in their journey for a career in theatre. These opportunities are open to those aged 18 and over.

This opportunity is for someone interested in learning more about the use of video in live production. The role will provide the opportunity to shadow and observe the work of the Sound and Video team (video bias), on The Jungle Book adapted by Anupama Chandrasekhar.

The role will be most suitable for someone who is interested in pursuing a career as a theatre technician with a video bias or video technician. You may have completed an apprenticeship or have other training or experience that demonstrates your interest in technical theatre and/or video in live productions.

Key Dates:

• Application deadline: Monday 28 September 10am
• Interviews: 14/15/16 October
• Placement starts: 19-22 Oct (TBA)
• Placement ends: Friday 13 November
• Placement length: The placement will be the equivalent of 8 days between the 19 October and 13 November to be agreed between the placement and the NT Skills Centre, ensuring that the placement will be able to observe key moments in the production process.
• This is a 64-hour placement spread across 8 days that will be paid at a London Living Wage equivalent grant of £950.

Job Responsibilities:

The placement will offer the opportunity to:

• Observe the Sound and Video team rigging, configuring and operating projection and video equipment for live performances.
• Gain practical insight into the setup, testing and maintenance of video systems, including projectors, screens, signal distribution and Disguise Media Server.
• See how the team collaborates with the video and projection designer, production management and other technical departments to realise the production safely and effectively.
• Develop an understanding of key production stages, including the fit-up, rigging, system commissioning, plotting, technical rehearsals and previews.
• Learn about the technical workflows, communication practices and troubleshooting processes required to operate and support video systems throughout a producing theatre show.
