We accept proposals from new, emerging and established theatre-makers. We only programme work that is/will be ready to stage, rather than work in development. We expect you to have/be able to recruit your own creative team, although we can provide support to livestream your show.

Come and get a real behind‑the‑scenes look at what it’s like to work backstage on an Emma Rice Company production. You’ll hear directly from our award‑winning technical team and get a sense of the skills and teamwork that go into bringing a show to life. Whether you’re curious about show calling, mixing sound, setting props, or touring, this workshop is a great way to find out more.
We’re looking for people at the start of their career. You don’t need experience in mixing or show calling, but you do need some experience backstage. You’ll be over the age of 18, will have had some training or some work backstage (including youth, community, or amateur productions) and you’ll be looking to take your next step into the theatre industry. Unity Theatre is partnering with Good Chance to offer a hands-on creative role for someone with experience of forced displacement. We are looking for an Assistant Director to join the team on our new devised Christmas show taking place at Unity Theatre this December.

About the Opportunity
This is a paid training opportunity for someone who wants to develop their skills in directing and making theatre. You will work closely with the Director and creative team throughout rehearsals and the production process.
Although you do not need extensive experience to apply, we do ask that candidates have some experience in theatre making or within a rehearsal room. This could be in a professional capacity, through university placements or independent projects. About Stage Door
Stage Door is Good Chance Theatre's flagship programme dedicated to creating bespoke paid trainee opportunities for creatives from refugee and asylum-seeking backgrounds. The programme celebrates and nurtures creative industry professionals while addressing the imbalance of opportunities available to people who have been displaced.
Following the incredible success of Stage Door 10, this traineeship forms part of the development of a new cohort: Stage Door 11. This year, the programme will see 11 traineeships rolled out across the country. As part of Stage Door 11 the Assistant Director will receive a series of one-to-one wellbeing sessions with Good Chance’s Deputy Artistic Director. They will also become part of a cohort of 11 trainees coming together to benefit from networking opportunities, skills development sessions, and masterclasses delivered by Good Chance. Towards the end of their placement, the trainee will also receive three mentoring sessions from a member of the Unity team, supporting them as they reflect on their experience and consider their next steps within the theatre industry.

Candoco Dance Company is inviting applications for Choreo Accelerator, our new commissioning programme supporting D/deaf, disabled or neurodivergent choreographers to develop, create and tour an ambitious piece of original work.
Choreo Accelerator will support a UK based choreographer to make the work they want to create, with their chosen artists and creative team.
Three choreographers will be selected for a paid development period, the Commissioning Readiness Programme. Following participation in this programme, one choreographer will be selected to receive the full commission.
The selected choreographer’s work will be produced by Candoco. This includes:
Choreo Accelerator is intended to provide more than a one-off commission. It will give the selected choreographer sustained support to be able to develop the work beyond the initial tour. The commissioned work will be developed from early 2027, with the plan for it to tour from autumn 2027 and into 2028.
The development and touring schedule will be agreed and flexible with the selected choreographer and creative teams.

Bristol Old Vic's Engagement department encompasses Young Company; one of the largest regional youth theatres in the UK, work with community groups and schools, training projects for young artists across the South West and co-created heritage projects.

The Leodis Prize is a bold initiative to spotlight previously unrepresented writers.
A major new opportunity for aspiring playwrights. No other theatre award in the UK offers representation, full production and publication.
Leodis will again produce the winning entry at Fringe 2027 and the play will be published by Methuen Drama, as well as offering a fully paid writing residency at a producing theatre – keep an eye on our socials for updates on this.

Last years winning entry – ‘Sanctuary’ by Jacob Sparrow — was a huge success and received universal critical acclaim. The production received enormous critical acclaim with over 20 reviews getting four and five stars.
Guidelines:
We welcome all scripts submissions for this award and are not setting strict criteria relating to numbers of characters, form, structure and length in order to allow writers the freedom to submit a script as they intend it to be presented.
However it is worth bearing in mind that the premier of this work will take place in Edinburgh at the Fringe, the challenges of which has a tendency to shape the work that is presented for better or worse. Edinburgh Fringe audiences have come to expect show around 60-70 minutes in length without an interval, but we have presented vastly longer and shorter pieces in the past - we will always look at ways that we can facilitate longer or more ambitious work and meet the challenges that they pose.

We’re looking for six short plays, and actors to perform in them.
LEG BREAKERS is a scratch night. It's an opportunity for writers to push themselves, to try new things, or just give it a go. It’s open to anyone, whether this is your first play, or your hundred and first.
This time we have a prompt that the scripts should be written to. It goes like this: A threshold has been reached. A decision must be made, or a step must be taken. This is the most important moment of their life or lives, but this doesn’t have to be clear.
If your script is selected, it’ll be performed at the event in front of a supportive audience. We provide dramaturgy, rehearsal time, and you’ll also receive audience feedback.
WRITER CALLOUT:
We’re looking for six original short plays up to 15 minutes. This is roughly 13-15 pages in size 14. The plays should be inspired by and written to our prompt. Fresh, scrappy pieces are encouraged - just hit us with your best shot.
PROMPT // Leg Breakers 002 - THRESHOLD
A threshold has been reached. A decision must be made, or a step must be taken. This is the most important moment of their life or lives, but this doesn't have to be known to them.
Bonus points if you include a joke that makes nobody in the audience laugh.
We're looking for bold, strange, heartfelt, funny, furious, and everything in between when exploring the prompt above. Most of all, we want it to sound like you. No stress, no worries, no judgement, just hit us with your best shot, and we’ll love it no matter what.
Please submit your script as a PDF, in a clear and legible font such as Arial or Garamond, size 14. Submissions must be in the English language, as we don't currently have the capacity to translate work. We encourage restraint in terms of cast size, to a maximum of 4 characters.
Each selected piece will be performed by our team of actors, with dramaturgical support, photography, and video footage provided, so you’ll get a real sense of how your work lands in the room. While our actors might not exactly fit the specific casting for your piece, we invite you to treat this as a chance to explore and play, rather than something restrictive. All writers will also be required to share marketing copy about their script as well as contribute to our website advertising the evening with content about their plays and their work so far.
