RYT Academy classes are fun and engaging, skills-based workshops with individual, termly modules. Whether you are a budding young actor or your aspirations lie in an unrelated field, this is a great way to develop life-skills and self-confidence. Classes are fun, interactive and ensemble based.

At the end of the term, the children will have the opportunity to share their work with friends and family.

Classes are held every day of the week, at Rose Theatre, Kingston and local external venues.

Act 2 is for Years 7 - 13

Our Act 2 course is a popular continuation of the skills and confidence founded in Act 1. The course is designed to introduce students to a whole range of acting techniques. Each term offers a varied theme from naturalism to Shakespeare to immersive theatre, with every session designed to develop skills, improve confidence and complement studies at school. You do not need to have been in Act 1 to start with us at Act 2.

One of our most popular writing courses, Creative Writing Courses for Beginners explore different techniques to develop your writing in fresh and dynamic ways

Perhaps you have ideas but don’t know what to do with them, or you struggle with descriptive prose. Perhaps you want a clearer understanding of plot, or to kick-start your work with regular deadlines.

Whether you want to write fiction or non-fiction, our creative writing class will help you find your individual voice – through practical exercises that boost your confidence and unlock your creative potential in a safe and supportive environment.

You’ll work practically to produce short pieces of content and develop a critical awareness of others’ writing styles. Creative Writing for Beginners is ideally suited to writers wishing to focus on long-form prose.

The National Youth Arts Trust runs a youth theatre in Hull.

Since 2017 we’ve been offering regular workshops for young people aged 12 to 19 in Hull, to provide an education in drama outside of school for young people from low-income, non-privileged backgrounds and those who would otherwise have little or no chance to access such opportunities.

There are up to 30 members, who meet each week. Our workshops offer the chance to explore creative potential in drama in a non-academic environment. We learn a range of skills including script writing and devising work, acting techniques, movement and voice, physical theatre and improvisation.

We go on theatre trips, run masterclasses with industry professionals and perform for the local community.

The youth theatre exists to unearth emerging local talent, make bold and exciting work, give a chance for young people’s voices to be heard, encourage members to develop a lifelong passion for the performing arts, and to offer a practical and realistic springboard to further education, including a potential theatrical career.

A writing group for anyone aged 18+ who identifies as Black British, Black African or Caribbean.

Through fortnightly workshops the Black Writers Collective develop their own skills as writers through workshops, sharing of their own work with each other and public audiences, as well as hearing from invited industry guests. Previous guests have included Charlotte Bennett of Paines Plough, and writers and performers Nathan Bryon and Tyrell Williams.

“Thank you for giving us a space to explore, trust ourselves as writers and continued support!”

The Collective is free to join, although we may begin to operate a waiting list if there is a lot of interest.

We meet every other Monday from 7 – 8.30pm, both in person at Southwark Playhouse and online.

The Open Programme offers lectures, workshops and short, practical courses in traditional arts and crafts.

Our programmes are open to anyone over the age of 18 and suit all levels of ability and experience, from beginners to seasoned practitioners.

Audiences are spoilt for choice right now with the availability of stories - on stage, screen, radio and in other forms of fiction. How do you strengthen your play idea - and make it stand out from all the rest?

In 2019, Associate Playwright Oliver Emanuel (Flight,The 306 Trilogy) ran a series of workshops across Scotland that aimed to:

- guide your writing and redrafting
- increase your confidence when talking to directors, programmers or potential supporters about the story you want to tell
- assert why you are the only person who can tell it

In this short series of videos, Oliver talks you through the points covered in the workshop. A BSL version of the workshop by Bea Webster is available.
