You will study a wide range of skills in set design, costume, lighting and sound along with stage and production management. This course will give you the foundation you need to pursue a career in the performing arts industries. Students typically progress into apprenticeships, Higher Education or direct entry into the profession.

The BRIT School offers extensive theatre facilities, giving you the chance to learn and develop a wide range of practical skills. The course is staffed by experienced theatre professionals and much of the learning is delivered through work on fully realised productions. The experience you will gain on this course will prepare you for a career in Production Arts and production design. At the end of the two year course you will achieve a UAL, Level 3 Extended Diploma in Production Arts, equivalent to three A levels.

Carpenters and joiners work on creating and installing a huge variety of features such as roofs, floors, windows and staircases, supporting new constructions, refurbishments and restoration projects alike. Our Level 1 carpentry course will introduce you to everything from using handsaws, planes, chisels and other essential tools to selecting woodworking resources and how to mark and produce woodworking joints. You will also learn key construction topics such as health and safety, modern sustainable construction methods and green technology, alongside developing your English, maths and other transferable skills to prepare you for the workplace.

Your carpentry training will be hands-on, studying in our cutting-edge Sustainable Construction Centre on campus, ensuring you have the practical skills to succeed. Our Level 3 media make-up course covers every aspect of advanced make-up techniques for stage and screen alongside other media purposes. Studying in our cutting-edge make-up studios at University College Birmingham, you will learn basic hairdressing, media make-up, wigs and postiche, as well as cosmetic camouflage and applying airbrush make-up.

The Technical Theatre course will give you the opportunity to gain the qualifications, skills and experience to progress in the Performing Arts Industry or in any industry you wish to go on to study after the two years.

The Technical Theatre qualification offers a diverse range of subjects giving you an insight into the industry enabling you to develop analytical, creative production and technical skills. Some of the areas covered within the course include lighting, sound, costume, set construction and Stage Management.

This course provides a professional training in a theatre, with state-of-the-art facilities. The Miskin is run by experienced industry professionals.

This is a dynamic and versatile course that will enable you to become a well-rounded creative art student and offers you the opportunity to explore and develop your artistic practice across a broad range of Art and Design specialisms. Units studied have a strong emphasis on experimentation and exploration allowing them to be tailored to your individual specialist practice.

You will have access to a range of facilities including studio spaces, printmaking workshops, textiles workshops, photography studios and state of the art equipment. To help you apply your skills you will be encouraged where possible to engage with the industry through competitions, live briefs, community work and employer engagement. Tutors are experienced and still work within the industry as artists and designers.

You will also have the opportunity to go on art based trips to places such as Liverpool, London and Berlin.

In year 1 you will have the opportunity to explore a diverse range of materials, techniques and processes to enable you to build a strong set of skills and knowledge across the areas.
