Mountview produces over 20 in-house productions each year in our state-of-the-art theatres, giving Stage Management students a vast array of learning experiences.
Stage managers are the glue that holds a production together. Their many responsibilities include running communication across all creative and technical departments, acting as a right hand to the director, overseeing sets, props, lights, and sound, and calling all technical cues during performances.
Mountview is internationally recognised for the quality of its Musical Theatre training and produces at least 8 large-scale musicals in-house every year, providing Stage Management students with extensive experience of the musical format.
Mountview also offers a one-year BA (Hons) Top-Up in Stage Management, which offers a greater depth of study to those with previous experience.

COURSE CONTENT AND DELIVERY
This intensely practical training is delivered over a minimum of 30 hours per week, 36 weeks per year. Teaching covers core skills in all areas of production arts and is delivered by experienced industry professionals.
Students take on practical show roles in Mountview’s in-house productions, with responsibilities including:
• Prompt books and show calling
• Creative research including period-specific work
• Working with theatrical effects
• Co-ordination and project management
• Cueing to music
• Prop making and sourcing
• Stage managing musicals, classics and new writing
A strong emphasis is placed on learning through practice and there is continuous assessment across all the compulsory modules.
Students also undertake work placements with external organisations, allowing them to develop a network of professional contacts and gain valuable experience. Previous placement destinations have included Moulin Rouge! The Musical, The Globe, Wiltons Music Hall, National Theatre, Hampstead Theatre, Cabaret and the Barbican.

SHOWCASE
Students are given integral roles on both Mountview productions and professional placements.
These provides excellent opportunities to showcase skills, gain important industry contacts and develop personal networks, all of which are key to your career progression.

This qualification provides students with an opportunity to explore and refine their individual practical skills, focusing on progressing either into higher-level education, such as Drama School or directly into employment. The qualification is suitable for students who are passionate and dedicated to achieving their goal of working in the Performing Arts. The stimulating and demanding qualification structure allows students to develop and test their creativity, whilst providing a supportive transition onwards.

Applicants must have a level 3 qualification (A level, BTEC or UAL) in a relevant creative or performance-based subject and a grade 4 in English Language. Alternatively, applicants may be accepted based on relevant industry experience. There will be an audition process which could involve monologues, group workshops and movement depending on the chosen specialism.

Equivalent to the 3rd year of a degree, this flexible top-up year is designed to follow on from our Foundation Degree in Music & Sound, but would also suit any applicants studying a music related HND, Foundation Degree or indeed those with recognised industry experience backed up with qualifications. Validated by the University of West London, the course has been developed to mirror the modern music industry, allowing students to learn the skills to become independent, multi-skilled music practitioners, fluent with various forms of multi-media.

Tailor-made for aspiring contemporary songwriters, our Songwriting and Artist Development course will engage you in a nurturing environment where you will be able to hone your creative, technical and business skills.

Our BSc (Hons) Songwriting and Artist Development degree is one of five exciting courses in the Undergraduate Music Programme. To help you grow as an artist we have created the UKs only songwriting course offering a Bachelor of Science (BSc), due to its unique blend of creative, technical and business aspects, setting you up for a successful career as a songwriter.

The course will develop your songwriting skills to establish your own musical style whilst learning how to record, produce and master your products to ensure they are industry ready for marketing and promotion.

On this course you will collaborate extensively within the School of Creative Arts, connecting with peers in the fields of Composition, Music Production, Audio Engineering, as well as Live Sound and Lighting to reflect industry practice. The course provides many opportunities for students to collaborate and perform their music in state-of-the-art performance spaces, including our regular HertsLive event and our end of year SonicHerts festival.

Many of our university staff within the Music department are active within the music industry as producers, songwriters, composers, remixers, sound designers and engineers, bringing their experience and expertise into the teaching space.

This will include writing engaging songs and making them sound great through contemporary production techniques. Mountview’s one-year Diploma in Stage and Production Management enables experienced students and practitioners to gain an advanced qualification and enhance their employability.

Students on this course experience the challenge of a fast-paced production environment, working on a broad range of projects while developing theoretical, creative, critical thinking and practical skills.

The Diploma is a great opportunity for those with existing experience to gain a formal qualification in Stage and Production Management. This is a one-year full-time vocational course and is ideal for students who wish to develop their experience and skills in management, theatre production arts or technical theatre through practical work in professional theatre environments.

Level 2 introduces the learner to carpentry and joinery skills. It allows candidates to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in carpentry or joinery.

On successful completion of the course students can progress on to a level 3 (T-Level) qualification in this subject, T-Level in Design, Surveying and Architecture or into employment in a related area.

The BA (Hons) Live Event Management degree is a groundbreaking programme with the ever-changing live music ecosystem at its heart. We are excited to launch our new full-time Certificate of Higher Education Musical Theatre course, which is awaiting validation by University of East Anglia ahead of its launch in September 2024. This course provides students with an artistically safe and supportive environment to develop their creative instincts while also preparing them for future training and career opportunities within the performing arts.
The course is framed by a focus on discovery. Students will be trained to develop their own personal skill strengths, cultivate independent growth, expand their artistic vocabulary and grow as creative artists.
Students will also gain an understanding of different vocational routes and will be given career tutorials to explore their next steps, alongside focussed audition preparation and 1:1 coaching on auditions.
A CertHE course is a great option for students from a wide range of backgrounds, whether you want to develop your skills before progressing to a three-year training option or as a standalone course before entering the industry directly.

his Dance and Musical Theatre course is a two-year vocational programme that equips you for a career in the performing arts industry.

During your studies you will have specialist training in dance, singing and acting to develop a well-versed range of skills including Musical Theatre, voice, script work, Ballet, Jazz, and Contemporary. This course will focus on strengthening both technical and performance abilities through practical classes and live performance opportunities.

Our campus boasts an impressive range of facilities including a dance studio with sprung Harlequin flooring, a fully equipped theatre space with state-of-the-art lighting and sound equipment, plus an additional three rehearsal studios for you to use while you study with us.

This qualification offers learners the opportunity to develop their musical theatre and dance skills over their course of study through a process of self-evaluation, practice and review, which are key skills for progression to higher education. The qualification also supports learners in building their own choreography portfolio in preparation for entry to employment in the performing industry or higher education.
