What does a Theatre Marketer do?

A theatre Marketer is part of a team who focuses on the ‘advertising’ of a production and encouraging customers to buy tickets for a production. A Marketer will promote your theatre/production through the use of social media, television, print and radio to inform and encourage the public.

What are the main responsibilities of a theatre Marketer?

  • Preparing, planning and managing a project to promote a production and using promotional materials to do this. Promotional materials can include merchandise with a productions logo, a programme etc.
  • Create marketing campaigns. A Marketing campaign is an organised plan that includes everything you plan to do to encourage customers to buy tickets to a production. For example, Aladdin the musical has posters in majority of the underground tube stations and these are seen by a lot of people. When the production began, the cast would perform on local television shows, do interviews and appear on bus stops etc to promote the show
  • Creating and developing new ways to communicate to the public and promote something to customers
  • Keeping an eye on the marketing campaign and deciding how effective it is and how it can be improved
  • Supporting the Marketing Manager in day-to-day marketing activities such as sourcing contact information, sending merchandise and other materials to theatres and organisations, packing the merchandise, proof reading etc.
  • Plan, develop and deliver marketing campaigns within tight deadlines
