Advanced Audio Engineering is a two year course which will give you the opportunity to develop practical skills and theoretical knowledge in music technology.

Students who enjoy and successfully complete this subject will gain a single vocational qualification, which is equivalent in point score to a complete A level, and will typically progress to further undergraduate study.

The two-year UAL Level Three course in music will provide you with the skills and knowledge to progress into higher education or the music business. This course is designed to suit a wide range of musicians from drummers and guitarists to vocalists and brass players. You will be based in our own dedicated performance space which has a 180-seater theatre, dressing rooms, dance studios, rehearsal rooms, recording studio, MAC suite, and technical theatre workshop.

The emphasis in Year One is focused on building your skills as a musician and developing your confidence for live performances. You will be introduced to music technology and be able to create and edit tracks. You’ll also look at musical styles and explore well-known songs as well as having the chance to write your own material. You will perform as a band and as a solo artist if you wish.

Year Two is designed to build on these skills and techniques to enable you to create your own recording projects, set up a label, perform gigs at a variety of venues, and prepare music for publication. You will meet a variety of industry professionals and have support to plan your career.

Lincoln College of Art and Design at Christ's Hospital Terrace (in the Cathedral Quarter) will be your base.

The course provides advanced theoretical and practical skills, knowledge and experience across all the key areas of music production.

This one-year programme follows on directly from our HNC in Music Technology. It will enable you to develop advanced, industry-standard skills in music production, studio and live sound-engineering techniques, mixing & mastering, composition techniques and sound design for interactive media. All students will produce their own professionally mixed and mastered EP or album as a part of this course. In addition to these practical elements you will also complete a research-based dissertation on a topic of your own choice.

Teaching staff all have considerable music industry experience and can guide students, depending on whether they wish to pursue a career as a composer, producer or sound engineer, or further their studies with a top-up degree programme.

You will cover a wide range of music production and technology activities. Developing knowledge of all the major software, access to state of the art studio equipment and experience of live sound, studio recording and computer based music. This is a practical course and includes both tutor and student led sessions, performances and theory-based assignments. Level 3 Music Performance & Production is a practical course including a portfolio of production work and theory based assignments. Practical elements include use of audio production facilities, learning industry standard DAW (digital audio software) including Apple Mac & PC software, keyboard lab & Music theory for Production, workshops in schools and supporting gigs in performance venues (both in house and externally) . This course provides an opportunity to compose music, work with and perform at live gigs and work in the professionally equipped Studios . The College has strong links with the local Music Community, Studio & Producers, the Royal & Derngate and the Roadmender. The method of learning is by a mixture of academic and practical sessions.

Level 3 Music Performance and Production is a very practically based course including a portfolio of performances and theory based assignments.

Practical elements include use of audio production facilities, practice booths, Apple Mac & PC software, keyboard lab and gigs in performance venue (both in house and externally) . This course gives the opportunity to perform live gigs and record a demo. The College has strong links with the local Music Community, the Royal & Derngate and the Roadmender. The method of learning is by a mixture of academic and practical sessions.

The Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Music Performance and Production have been designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to progress to further study and training in a range of music performance and production disciplines.

The qualification has been designed for students who have an interest in music performance and/or music production who wish to explore and extend this interest via a full-time, immersive learning experience

Prospective students should be aware that employment in the music industry as a performer is extremely demanding and requires a high level of skill and commitment.

On completion of the course, you will achieve a level 3 UAL Diploma or Extended Diploma in Music Performance and Production.
