If you are in year 11 or 12 and are looking to take the next steps towards your career behind the scenes of stage and screen, then this course is for you. This vocational course combines industry practice and creative skills. You will study in our in-house Theatre and TV Studios, using our external hire and employer links to prepare for successful career progression.

Lighting and Sound operation are just few of the elements required to put together a production. This course looks at each of these and more, helping you develop skills that are transferable from an arena sized concert or a theatrical production all the way to small scale touring venue.

This course looks into the alternative side of the industry; business and people management alongside the more obvious aspects of the course such as stage management, theatre design and operations. We will teach you a wide range of skills required to successfully and skilfully put on stage/screen productions. From learning how to maintain and operate technical lighting and sound equipment, to running a live audience event and managing the backstage area of a production.

There will be no shortage of hands-on experience on this course. You will work as a crew member in Kingston College's in-house theatre, gaining an understanding of design, operative and management roles and responsibilities.

This course will allow you to develop the knowledge and skills you need to start your career within the Production Arts industry.

The course covers all essential skills you need to start your career. It is a mix of course work and in-depth practical workshop sessions, with work experience alongside. We have close links with local theatres and brands to help you gain hands on experience.

Previous Hair & Make-up experience is not required for this course. You will have the opportunity to explore and develop your skills starting with the basics to build knowledge, confidence and improve practical techniques. All we ask is for a passion to join the industry and dedication throughout the programme.

This programme is a two-year course for 16-18 years of age with the option of one-year for students 18 years of age on completion.

Theatrical Media Make-Up is an exciting career for people who are creative and have a passion for hair and beauty in the performance and media industries. It is a competitive career but with the right skills, experience and hard work you can open up a world of opportunities.

On this course you'll be introduced to the artistry of hair, make-up and special effects make-up for the stage. Working closely with our Performing Arts department and through external work experience you will develop and refine your creative skills and build your portfolio of work.

The London School of Musical Theatre (LSMT) offers a one-year, full-time course, designed for those who wish to realise their full potential as musical theatre performers.

Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation Scholarship will be awarded by the School as part of the audition/selection process on the combined basis of merit and financial need. The Scholarship will cover course fees only and will be reviewed on an annual basis. 

Creative Youth Network (CYN) is committed to providing young people with new and exciting opportunities to broaden their skills and prepare them for life as an adult.


Creative Youth Network is a growing charity working with young people across the West of England.  By building long lasting relationships, offering courses, support, drop ins and a range of arts and performance programmes we aim to help vulnerable young people reach their full potential. 


Creative Youth Network also owns and manages a number of properties where we run our youth services, such as youth clubs and events. Trustees are volunteers with a passion for young people. The trustee role is unpaid, but the money you spend on travelling to meetings can be claimed and reimbursed. A full induction will be provided, and trustees are expected to attend around 7 meetings a year along with a half day strategic planning session.

The programme is designed to be completed entirely through distance learning, to fit around your schedule. Aimed at those who have completed their performing arts training, and may have already worked in the industry, the course is designed to help you reflect upon your journey to this point, research the avenues you wish to pursue next, and bridge the gap to take the next steps on your career journey. Through a wide variety of online resources, live and recorded webinars, group and individual tutorials, presentations, film creation, research projects and written work, you will deeply evaluate your own professional practice and personal qualities and attributes, extensively consider and research an area of the performing arts industry that interests you, and prepare a professional project that moves you towards that goal, through either the creation of a professional portfolio, an action research project or a written dissertation.

The programme focuses on you and your personal and professional development, training you in the reflective and research skills required to get you from where you are to where you want to be. We teach you how to critically reflect upon your life and work experience to date, intensively research the options you’re interested in pursuing and help you bridge the gap between where you are and where you wish to go next.

Only available to those who are joining at aged 16, this course is a stepping stone to a backstage career in the theatre and related industries.

You will study a wide range of skills in set design, costume, lighting and sound along with stage and production management. This course will give you the foundation you need to pursue a career in the performing arts industries. Students typically progress into apprenticeships, Higher Education or direct entry into the profession.

The BRIT School offers extensive theatre facilities, giving you the chance to learn and develop a wide range of practical skills. The course is staffed by experienced theatre professionals and much of the learning is delivered through work on fully realised productions. The experience you will gain on this course will prepare you for a career in Production Arts and production design. At the end of the two year course you will achieve a UAL, Level 3 Extended Diploma in Production Arts, equivalent to three A levels.

The UK construction industry is in great need of skilled new workers to support major development and regeneration projects throughout the country. By studying our Carpentry and Joinery Level 1 course, you will gain the foundation of skills and knowledge for future work within this sector.

Carpenters and joiners work on creating and installing a huge variety of features such as roofs, floors, windows and staircases, supporting new constructions, refurbishments and restoration projects alike. Our Level 1 carpentry course will introduce you to everything from using handsaws, planes, chisels and other essential tools to selecting woodworking resources and how to mark and produce woodworking joints. You will also learn key construction topics such as health and safety, modern sustainable construction methods and green technology, alongside developing your English, maths and other transferable skills to prepare you for the workplace.

Your carpentry training will be hands-on, studying in our cutting-edge Sustainable Construction Centre on campus, ensuring you have the practical skills to succeed. Once you have completed our carpentry and joinery course, you will have opportunities to progress onto further study, apprenticeships and careers in the industry.
