Many people in our industry have been impacted by the recent rise in far-right extremism, racist violence, anti-immigration attacks and Islamophobia. As a civic building at the heart of the cultural community, we want to offer a space for those affected to feel safe, heard and cared for.

These informal, healing get-togethers, hosted by our Associate Director Sameena Hussain, are for Global Majority people, Muslims, and refugees who work in the theatre industry, whether you are a creative, front-of-house colleague, a technician or a freelance artist – if you work in the sector, you are welcome.

We look forward to eating, talking and sharing with you.

The Irish Writers Centre (IWC) is pleased to announce a new round of support schemes for writers from or based in North of Ireland, made possible with support from the National Lottery through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.

The Irish Writers Centre will provide 20 bursaries for beginner and emerging writers. These bursaries will enable writers to develop their skills through funded places on creative writing courses, and open access to course entry by subsidising costs to individuals who may not otherwise be able to afford a course. Each awardee will receive course credit worth €165 towards a course. The IWC facilitates up to 150 courses a year for writers at every stage of their career. We provide a range of in-person and online courses including novel writing, short story, poetry, and creative non-fiction.

We are seeking a Participation Trainee to work across all of our participation projects, support our  administration and operations teams, and work closely with schools, community organisations and freelance theatre-makers.

Donmar Warehouse will support you in developing your personal professional development plan during the role, offer external mentoring and networking opportunities, and support with mentorship beyond the 12-month post.

CATALYST supports the development of talent both on and offstage which is underrepresented both at the Donmar and in the wider industry. A festival of original new work by 18 to 30-year-olds

London Bubble Theatre is calling out for 6 underrepresented, early career artists or groups, aged 18 to 30 and providing them with space to develop their own work.

All you need is an idea or piece in its early stages of development and a team in place.

We will provide you with free rehearsal space and technical support for an end-of-week sharing so that your work can get the feedback you need.

For more information about Make Space and how to apply please visit the webpage linked below.

This autumn, we’re presenting a free 5-week workshop series on stage writing led by our Resident Artist, Misha Duncan-Barry.

We’ll also explore connections to Black History Month, drawing inspiration from both contemporary and historical figures to generate new works.

Open to writers of all backgrounds, whether you’re a beginner, a student, or an experienced writer, this course is designed for you. Whether you have an idea for a play, monologue, or scene you’ll have the time and space to create during the workshop. We especially encourage those from under-represented communities to apply.

Please note that by booking your ticket for 21 September, this also registers you for all the subsequent workshops.

We are inviting applications for a six-week paid internship at the London Palladium.

This is a fantastic entry level opportunity for someone who has recently left school or college and is looking for hands-on training. You will work full-time at the London Palladium for six weeks, mentored by the backstage teams and receiving support from Masterclass. During this six-week internship you will observe and practise skills needed to pursue a career backstage in theatre. You will gain insight into many roles backstage, from carpentry to lighting, sound to automation, with the opportunity to learn about career options from a range of people already in the theatre industry. You will also receive a workplace reference for future employment.

This is an entry level role, intended for a school- or college-leaver, and therefore suitable for people who have no formal theatre training. However, we do want candidates with some skills in carpentry / woodwork or electrics or sound.

This internship is a development and learning opportunity for those who are interested in exploring the options for a backstage theatre career.
