Experience Opportunity

Genesis Theatre Design

Are you looking for a career in theatre design?

Applications are now open for the second cohort of the Genesis Theatre Design Programme.

We're working with the Genesis Foundation, Mulberry Schools Trust and The School of Historical Dress on delivering this free two-year part-time course to train and support eight designers with the aim of improving Global Majority representation among theatre designers in the industry, expanding the pipeline of talent, and opening more career opportunities.

Participants will have access to:

  • tutorials with world-class designers and directors
  • lectures and research projects with staging and costume experts
  • practical training with production and technical staff
  • placements as design assistants
  • mentoring from some of the UK's leading design professionals

The programme is open to individuals from the Global Majority, aged 21 and over, with no specific qualifications or prior experience required.

Requirements

This programme is open to Black and *Global Majority people. (*By Global Majority, we mean people who identify as Black Caribbean, Black African, South Asian, East Asian, Middle Eastern or Latine).

At present, we chose to use the term ‘Black and Global Majority’ people, as it does not centre whiteness. We acknowledge that language and the way it is applied is constantly evolving. We encourage the specificity of racial identity and ethnicity and look to a future of self-determination with no imposed labels or assumptions.
