Experience Opportunity

In Focus: The Land of the Living

A workshop exploring aspects of direction for our production of The Land of the Living, a new play by David Lan.

This In Focus workshop will be led by Staff Director on the play, Julia Levai. It will examine the nature of the play, with a particular focus on direction, the playing space of the Dorfman theatre (where this play will be performed), and the actor-audience relationship.

Come ready to explore the creative challenges of this play from a practical viewpoint, and gain an insight into the rehearsal room process. The day will end on a Q&A with the creative team, followed by watching the play that evening.

These opportunities are free to take part in: no prior experience is necessary, just a sense of curiosity and creativity!

As part of the day, you’ll also receive a free ticket to see the production that same evening.

Requirements

The National Theatre’s Young People programme is committed to diversity and access. We therefore concentrate our recruitment on young people from groups in three areas that we recognise have been most affected by the events of the last few years, including:

• young people from the global majority;
• young people from working class backgrounds;
• and d/Deaf, neurodivergent and disabled young people.

The In Focus opportunities take place at the National Theatre on the South Bank in London, so we prioritise places for those based in London, or who can travel to London easily and safely within the workshop day.

This project is free to take part in. We can offer support (financial and practical) to those in the Greater London area to help you get to and from the event if this is a barrier to your attending.
