Experience Opportunity

New Views: Digital Writers' Room

Are you aged 14 – 19 with a passion for playwriting? Have you already begun your writing journey and are looking to hone your craft? Our free online course could be for you.

During the course you will develop the practical tools and skills to focus your ideas and turn them into theatre. Over five sessions from October 2025 to March 2026, you’ll take part in discussions, creative tasks, and peer-group working, finding out how to generate ideas and create structure, character and dialogue.

Professional playwrights will lead and support you to gain a deeper understanding of the playwriting process, and you will receive feedback on an early draft of your work.

At the end of the course, you’ll have the opportunity to submit a short play to the New Views Festival.

This is part of our New Views playwriting programme for young people across the UK, happening in-schools, at the National Theatre and online.

Course dates:

Wednesday 24 September, 5pm – 7.30pm

Wednesday 22 October, 5pm – 7.30pm

Wednesday 3 December, 5pm – 7.30pm

Wednesday 28 January, 5pm – 7.30pm

Please note: You must be able to attend the full course to take part.

Requirements

We are furthering our commitment to diversity and access by concentrating recruitment in three areas that we recognise have been most affected by the events of the last few years:

• young people from the global majority;
• young people from working-class backgrounds;
• and d/Deaf, neurodivergent and disabled young people.

This course is free to take part in.

This course will take place online and therefore we aim to offer places to people from in and around the UK.
