We’re excited to offering FREE workshops in theatre and comedy for Waltham Forest Schools in 2021/22.

WHAT WE’RE OFFERING

THEATREMAKERS
- Two-hour workshops (can be tailored to your timetable for 1-2.5 hours) between 10am and 5pm
- Minimum 10 students, maximum 30. A teacher must be present in the room throughout all workshops
- Workshops are suitable for any year group 7-13 and can be tailored to particular themes to fit with your schemes of work
- You’re welcome to request more than one workshop per class and multiple workshops for different year groups
- We are also able to attend more informal panel discussions, career talks or dress rehearsals for shows/exams

TOPICS
INTRODUCTION TO COMEDY
- Introduce your students to the world of comedy through games, group exercises and individual tasks
- Workshop covers physical comedy, characters and how to create funny scenarios/sketches
- What we’d need: pens, paper, students in comfortable clothing and shoes for physical activities. Empty space/hall to use for games

CREATIVE WRITING- INTRODUCTION TO PLAYWRITING AND MONOLOGUES
- Demystify the concept of playwriting, with easily accessible free-writing games and exercises
- Students work in pairs and independently to create a character and build towards creating their own short monologue by the end of the session
- Contemporary (age-appropriate) texts may also be used during the workshop, as reference
- What we’d need: workshop space suitable for students to write in, pens, paper/exercise books, flipchart/whiteboard

AUDITION TECHNIQUES
- Most suitable for years 10+
- Prepare your students for the audition room and process, with inside tips and techniques from National Youth Theatre’s Ben Salmon
- Students will learn a monologue in advance of the workshop and will receive feedback from Ben during the session. Teachers, or workshop leader are able to select the monologue
- What we’d need: Empty space/hall to use for physical workshop, students in comfortable clothing and shoes
