Our BSc Music, Multimedia and Electronics (MME) course is unique, offering you specialisms in music, electrical engineering and the intersection of the disciplines, and accreditation as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng). The course is delivered jointly by the School of Music and the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering.

The course offers a balance of modules taken in each School across the degree. In Electronics, you’ll develop and apply knowledge in areas such as circuit design, embedded systems, audio signal processing and digital media. In Music, you’ll explore key concepts, theories and approaches in music technology, electronic and computer music, and various musical styles and genres in their social contexts. The programme culminates in a Music, Multimedia and Electronics Project, combining the learning from across your degree in a research-informed practical context. Developing your skills as a creative thinker and researcher across music and engineering, you'll gain the tools and experience needed to be an independent worker, ready for life after university.

Sound Engineering and Production explores a variety of practical applications for sound including radio, TV, music recording, live sound, gaming audio and VR.

Building a strong understanding of audio systems, studio recording and live sound in year one, you will progress to explore topics such as audio installations and sound design in year two. By your final year, you’ll study more advanced modules in specialist areas alongside completing a project based on a real-world issue.

Acoustics and Music Technology are driving a revolution in the way that sound is created, manipulated, transmitted, and replayed. You may follow one of two distinct pathways through the programme, in Physical Acoustics, or Computer Music Systems, or you may combine aspects of both pathways to tailor the programme to your specific interests.

The primary objectives of the programme are to provide students with solid skills in science and mathematics, experience in the creative applications of sound and music technology, and industrially-relevant understanding of how these interconnected subjects are shaping the role of sound and music in human society.
