This course is ideal for School Leavers who want to pursue a career in the performing arts, or other areas of work where performance skills are useful.

This qualification is designed to introduce you to drama, dance and performing arts in a wide context and to broaden your skill base. You will learn in a practical environment and will be taught by highly qualified industry professionals.

You will perform in our on-site theatre and rehearse in our dance studio, surrounded by music, creative arts and media students and staff. The presence of degree students also raises the level of recorded work seen by students during their time here.

This course offers extensive training in contemporary and jazz dance techniques, acting and singing. We also teach you about the performance industry and the opportunities that are available.

You will take part in five assessed performances over the year in front of an external audience, as well as having the exciting opportunity to audition for a full length musical, with students previously performing Les Misérables and Sweeney Todd.

The Level 2 Performing Arts course is a practical qualification assessed on work created for performance projects and supported by developing a knowledge of the industry and career routes.

You will begin your journey with our theatre company by developing your performance skills culminating in a live performance to a public audience in November of dance and dramatic pieces. You will develop performance skills as you continue your journey working towards a solo showcase and begin exploring progression routes within application materials, reflecting industry practice.

You will then explore crucial styles, terminology and approaches within dance. Alongside this you will also continue developing acting and performance skills by staging an adaptation of a classical text which reimagines the work for a modern audience. You will complete your work with our theatre company by creating an original piece of performance for inclusion in the end of year week-long Festival celebrating performing arts.

Throughout your studies you will explore the wider industry, employment opportunities, progression options, including wider job opportunities in backstage, production and theatre management. You will also have the opportunity to widen your skills working front of house and backstage on performances and events to further improve your experience.

This course is ideal for School Leavers who want to pursue a career in the music and music technology industry.

This qualification is designed to introduce you to music and music technology. You will learn in a very practical environment and be taught by highly experienced industry professionals, using the Mac suite for your computer music work, performing live on stage and around the college at various events, and recording in our professional studio. You will cover a broad number of topics including the music business, studio recording and live sound mixing. You will have the benefit by being surrounded with performing arts, creative arts and media students and staff.

Who is this programme for?

This course is aimed at aspiring musicians who want to make a start in the music and music technology fields and wish to get the basics down before progressing on to a Level 3 course in Music and Music technology.  If you are looking to further your knowledge and experience of music and music technology in a very practical and exciting way, in our purpose built recording studio and live stage performance spaces, this course will essentially give you all the skills that you will require to progress. For students who have a passion for this subject area and are very well motivated this could be the beginning of a truly exciting and rewarding experience. 

Cost: The course is free for school leavers up to the age of 18, and all students will be expected to own and maintain good quality instruments, and will also need a good quality set of over ear headphones and a min 4GB USB Drive.
