This is is a course for anyone with an interest in Media and Film Production. The Creative Media Production course allows students to develop a wide range of practical production skills in a variety of formats in combination with an understanding of how media texts function and media industries work.

The course is equivalent to 1 A Level.

This course can be studied alongside A Levels so progression opportunities include degrees in Film & Media Production, Advertising, Marketing, Journalism, Games Design etc. as well as employment or apprenticeships.

This qualification is designed to support learners who wish to study entry level Creative Media Production as a one-year, full-time course alongside undertaking English and Maths.

This qualification will give learners the potential opportunity to progress to employment, or progress within employment in a wide range of job roles across the creative digital media sectors, for example photographer’s assistant, sound recordist, editorial assistant, junior web designer and games tester.

You will learn and use a variety of skills throughout the course, which are in great demand and are recognised and highly valued by employers and colleges.

Exploring both the practical and theoretical aspects of creative media, you will be using professional hardware and software, including our state-of-the-art DSLR cameras and brand new editing suite with all of the latest Adobe applications, including Premiere Pro, After Effects and Photoshop. These resources will prepare you for the level of professional equipment and standards you will encounter in the media industry. This qualification is the equivalent of up to 168 UCAS Points.

The course is largely practical; you will learn the techniques and skills relevant to each sector before putting them into practice to create your own media products ranging from films, documentaries, publishing, games and more. During your time on the course you will be taught by knowledgeable and experienced lecturers who also work within industry as film makers and creators.

Many of our students go to university to continue developing their skills in media. Some have begun their own businesses in areas such as tattooing and social media/ marketing. Others have gone on to create successful YouTube channels. There are even opportunities to find an apprenticeship or a trainee role in companies such as the BBC.

READ College’s full-time, vocational Sixth Form Course in Musical is unique in its approach, and graduate destinations have included Arts Ed, Mountview, Urdang, Bird, Laine, Central, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and many more. As a registered charity, we support students from under-represented and disadvantaged backgrounds with bursary funding towards tuition fees through our Access to The Arts ™ programme.

Students benefit from at least 27 hours of contact time per week, and study the full range of skills required in Musical Theatre under the guidance of leading industry tutors. Dance styles taught include ballet, jazz, commercial, tap and contemporary. Acting classes include improv, classical theatre, audition repertoire and physical theatre, and our singing training is made up of weekly one-to-one classes, ensemble singing, music theory and vocal tech. Students in their second year also benefit from regular masterclasses with guest tutors from all of the major degree-level courses, to prepare them for auditions.

A full 100% of our Musical Theatre Sixth Form graduates have been offered places at leading degree-level courses since the college opened, and our alumni can now be found working throughout the industry. Courses run from September to July, and applications are now open for our 2021 intake. Open days take place throughout the year, and we also run regular taster courses in the school holidays.

The Level 3 Performing Arts course is a practical qualification assessed on work created for performance projects and supported by developing a knowledge of the industry and career routes. In Year One you will study the Foundation Diploma (equivalent to 3 AS Levels) and in Year Two you will complete your studies in the Extended Diploma (equivalent to 3 A-Levels). There are no external exams within this qualification.

You will begin your journey with our theatre company by developing your performance skills culminating in a live performance to a public audience in October. You will develop acting, dancing and singing skills as you continue your journey working towards a Christmas pantomime performed to the general public and in matinee performances aimed at children recreating the industry standard of multiple performances each day. You will then explore crucial styles of performance in dance and theatre creating professional standard work for recording. You will conclude your first year in our theatre company by creating an original piece of contemporary performance and an adaptation of a classical text which reimagines the work for a modern audience. This work will be showcased in our end of year week-long Festival celebrating performing arts.

In Year One you will explore a range of specialisms (dance, drama, song) in order to broaden and develop your skills and understanding of the breadth of the industry. In Year Two you will work towards a chosen specialism to develop a solo showcase and marketing portfolio. You will then create your own theatre company and develop a piece of performance for inclusion in the end of year week-long Festival celebrating performing arts.

Throughout your studies you will explore the wider industry, employment opportunities, progression options, including specialist drama and dance schools. You will also have the opportunity to widen your skills working front of house and backstage on performances and events to further improve your experience.

The Higher National Diploma in Musical theatre at Addict Dance Academy is designed to equip students for work in Musical Theatre. Each week, students will undertake vocational, practical classes in Acting, Dance and Singing all lead by experienced practitioners in their field, many still working in the industry today.  

The HND underpins all of the exceptional vocational practical work with tailored and focused lectures covering a range of topics relevant to a dancer in training.  

Whilst on the course you will study units covering Acting, Dance and Musical Theatre.
