This course provides a foundation in acting and can prepare you for further study, either at East 15 or at other acclaimed acting schools. The intention is to help create actors who will have an intellectual as well as a vocational life in the theatre, introducing you to the concepts and mechanics behind each.

The Certificate of Higher Education in Theatre Arts is a highly focused exploration of acting techniques and aims to introduce you to the context that gives each theatrical era its distinctive identity. This includes (on a practical level) movement, music, improvisational skills and acting. Overall, it is an intensively practical scheme.

Throughout the three terms, students undertake a number of compulsory modules. These cover audition technique, movement, voice and singing. During the first two terms at the Southend Campus, you are also introduced to acting courses that specialise in Stage Combat, Physical Theatre, Community Theatre and World Performance.

In addition to exploring the history and theory of theatre and its relation to other arts forms, you have regular opportunities to attend performances of plays, music and dance, as well as to visit art galleries, films and relevant historic sites.

This course is taught at both our Loughton and Southend Campuses.

A close-knit and very active department, the Organ Faculty offers programmes for organists to study solo repertoire, hone technical skills and learn the crucial aspects of playing in a wide variety of contexts and styles.

This is for gap-year students preparing for an Oxbridge organ scholarship, or for those who wish to develop organ/choral direction skills before formal university or conservatoire training.
This is for you if you would like to receive Academy training but do not require a full programme of study that leads to a degree. Organ Foundation students are considered as fully-enrolled members of the Academy’s student body, and have equal access to the Academy’s resources (library, computers, practice rooms etc).

The Acting Foundation Course provides a rigorous and in-depth training that will give you the skills, techniques and confidence invaluable either as a preparation for further vocational training, higher education (Degree or MA/MFA) or for a career in the performing Arts.
Alongside weekly skills classes, you will have the opportunity of having a showreel and a filming project. Students on this course also have full time professional preparation week where you look at CV's and have the chance to practice a mock audition with professional directors and casting directors.
The course is designed to support your development as an actor in training, auditioning and future practice in a way that is rigorous and professional.
We offer one free scholarship via The Stage (to cover course fee of £9,000) for our Sidcup Course and two £3,000 bursaries are available for our courses in Belfast, Brighton and Edinburgh (course fee £6,500).
