The Level 3 in Theatrical, Special Effects, Hair & Media Makeup course offers an exciting and challenging career in a fast-paced industry.
The course includes a variety of practical and theoretical classes. You will take part in trips, visits, seminars, and competitions alongside your course to further develop your understanding and knowledge of the industry which will be dependent upon your attendance and professional conduct. You are also expected to undertake work experience, either in a photography studio or a salon to enhance your skills, keep you up to date with the latest trends and aid employability and progression opportunities.
The course is a two-year A-Level programme
You don’t need GCSE Drama to take Drama and Theatre Studies at Bilborough Sixth Form College. What you will need, though, are a strong level of performance or design, a creative approach to productions and the ability to evaluate a performance. We follow the new Edexcel specification and work in classes of no more than 21 students – usually fewer. You’ll learn in a purpose-built studio theatre with stage lighting and sound, and flexible raked seating to create a variety of performance spaces. We also have an open-air amphitheatre and a specialist technical assistant. You can combine this subject with Performance Studies and / or Dance if you wish. (Drama & Theatre Studies is concerned with the whole area of theatre – including production and performance – whereas Performance Studies is concerned with contemporary dance, music and drama.)

This course is a full-time programme split over two years:
Year 1 - The National Foundation Diploma.
Year 2 - Extended Diploma.
Following successful completion of the National Foundation Diploma in year 1 you may then be able to progress to a second year of study on the Extended Diploma.
The full Extended Diploma is the equivalent to three A Levels and highly suitable for preparing students for university entry.
The diploma course concentrates on exploring the three main disciplines of musical theatre (singing, dancing and acting) and developing the fundamental skills needed to produce quality performance work. Continuing to the extended diploma, you will be able to continue to develop your skills and understanding of the performing arts industry.
Cost: Free for 16 to 18 year-olds. If you are aged 19 to 23 and studying your first Level 3 course then this course may be free. The annual fee for all other students aged over 19 is £2882.
In the media-dominated world you will be taught how to analyse the various forms of media language and representations that we consume every day; developing the ability to deconstruct a variety of texts.

A comprehensive dance course where you will develop a wide range of skills across multiple dance disciplines whilst advancing your individuality and performance technique, run at the Eastern School of Performing Arts (ESPA). Gain an excellent grounding to become a versatile dancer and develop your individuality and performance skills to allow you to progress to professional dance schools and employment. You will train across a variety of genres including: choreography, ballet, contemporary, jazz, commercial, musical theatre and tap.
You will develop your performance skills along with learning about the performing arts business. All assessments are written and developed to enable students to gain and develop skills whilst gaining a qualification. You will undertake an additional ABD Ballet Exam to support your progression to sought after colleges and/or universities and develop your technical skills. ABD qualifications are recognised by UCAS and contribute towards your points calculation.
ESPA provides industry experienced tutors for all their courses, enabling students to develop skills required for their next steps. The course is highly vocational and you will spend your days in the dance studio.
