Almeida Discourse is a free theatre review group for students aged 14-18 who live or study in Islington.

For anyone curious about theatre beyond performing, studying GCSE Drama or English, or keen to see Almeida shows for free, meet the creatives behind them, and get stuck in to unpacking the play.

Members are given an Almeida Discourse Collective card which gets them:

• Free tickets to every Almeida production in the academic year
• A post-show Discourse roundtable to discuss, debate and review the play
• Free food and drink provided at both the performance and roundtable days
• Artistic guests at Discourse roundtables
• 50% discount in the bar on drinks and snacks on performance nights
• As a cohort, you will work together to create a response to the programme and performances

• First Show will be 6.30pm on Monday 16 November 2026
• First Roundtable will be 4:30pm - 6pm on Wednesday 18 November 2026

Not sure of your next steps? Front line gives 16-30-year-olds the opportunity to discover more about careers in theatre and develop key transferable skills through paid placements with our Front Of House team.

Participants will watch one of our productions, shadow various members of staff and take on important roles welcoming visitors to our theatre. The project culminates with a CV and interview skills workshop to help you take the next steps in your career.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME:

Front Line is a paid work experience opportunity for people who are keen to explore jobs in hospitality and customer service. By taking part in Front Line, you will gain up to 26 hours of paid on-the-job experience in the following areas:

• Join our friendly team of ushers, welcoming customers to the theatre
• Learn from our team of baristas in our cafe, serving up drinks and snacks
• Find out how customers book their tickets to shows in our Box Office team
• Partner with a Stage Door Manager, immersing yourself in the theatre’s busy back of house
• Connect with the Education & Community team, supporting one of their events.

All sessions are paid at London Living Wage (£14.80 per hour).

WHO IS THIS PROGRAMME?

Front Line is designed to support people who have little to no work experience take their first steps into the world of work in a supported and inclusive environment. No prior experience is necessary in order to take part, but we are looking for participants who are passionate about customer service and working with people.

You must:

• Be aged 16–30
• Not be in Education, Employment or Training (NEET)
• Have little to no work experience and would benefit from support in applying for work
• Be based in London or within the surrounding areas (shifts will involve evening work)
• Have the right to work in the UK.

We are committed to identifying and resolving barriers which may ordinarily exclude people from accessing theatre and will prioritise people who have had limited or no access to arts opportunities in the past. This includes people from the global majority, care-experienced people, carers, disabled people, neurodivergent people, people from working-class backgrounds and people from the LGBTQIA+ community.

HOW TO APPLY:

Front Line cohorts will run from Nov–Dec 2026 and Jan–Feb 2027. Applications are now open and will close on Tue 15 Sep at 5pm. Head to our website to apply.

Our Writer’s Programme here at Theatre503 is focused on upskilling writers of all experience levels throughout the theatre industry and beyond. Facilitated by industry leaders, including 503 Alumni & 503 team members; our courses, masterclasses and intensives offer a vast range of topics to give every writer something to choose from. We offer a mix of in person & online sessions, making it accessible to writers both locally and throughout the globe.
