At Open Door, our Behind the Scenes Access Programme supports participants aged 17-30 who are passionate about a career in Technical Theatre and Productions Arts and who want to apply to study at one of our partner schools. Technical Theatre and Productions Arts careers can include the likes of scenic art, theatre technology, set construction, costume construction, prop-making, set/costume design and more!

Our current partner schools are Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, LAMDA, Royal Welsh College of Music, and The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. We can give you the support you need to approach your interviews with confidence, knowing that you have benefited from the advice and mentoring from our selected industry professionals.

Our Level 2 Performing Arts course will equip you with the skills to develop as a rounded and versatile performer. On completion, you will be ready to move up to our Level 3 programmes, which will prepare you for a variety of progression opportunities, including university degrees, specialist dance and drama school training and stage careers in a range of settings, including touring theatre companies. There are many behind the scenes roles that you will explore and experience to provide you with the knowledge and confidence to work in this diverse industry. We have strong links with industry professionals who present masterclass workshops to provide a valuable insight into the performance and entertainment industries.

The purpose of this qualification is to develop your skills as a professional make-up artist working with performers to a high level of occupational ability, to enable you to provide hair and make-up services in the media, theatre, performing arts, fashion and photographic industries.

Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair and Media Make-up is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills to an advanced level through a variety of techniques in the following units; media, special effects and camouflage make-up, how to apply ready-made small prosthetic pieces and bald caps, monitor and maintain health and safety, client care and communication, style and fit a postiche and how to apply the complex skill of airbrush make-up.

Expand your knowledge and appreciation of theatre in its entirety, including addressing how historical and social factors impact on performances within contemporary society.

A Level Drama & Theatre Studies combines both the theoretical and practical study of a wide range of classical and contemporary practitioners.

You will also study how to interpret a role, and how to use practitioner techniques to devise your own material.

Drama & Theatre combines the study of practical performance with the history and social context of theatre. It is the study of a range of practitioners and acting styles, as well as reading and analysing plays. It also includes learning about stage-craft and stage management skills in set design, lighting and sound.

Studying this subject will enable you to explore the history and social context of theatre and play texts. It will challenge you practically and academically and you will develop your own performance skills, which can be transferred to a variety of career paths and opportunities. 

This intensive, full-time course focuses on combining the three disciplines of acting, dance and singing in order to create the all-round performer.

You will be continually supported as you extend your technique in a range of styles and will be given the opportunity to take part in a number of public performances, some that you may audition for and others that you will automatically be cast in as part of your course.

You will also be taught the skills you need to pass auditions so that you can continue your training at one of the top conservatoires or universities in the UK.

We take the best young performers in the North West and help them to develop the skills that allow them to progress on to the most prestigious conservatoires and universities in the UK.

A Level Music is a two year course which will give you the opportunity to explore all areas of composing, performing and listening.

Many students who enjoy and successfully complete this subject typically progress to study Music at either university or at music college.

A Level Media Studies is a two year course and a dynamic and fast-moving subject that helps students understand the most influential aspect of modern life - the mass media in all its forms.

Over a one year course you will develop a range of practical skills and theoretical knowledge in the areas of Moving Image (editing, lighting and camera), Digital Print, Photography and Audio Editing

Many students who enjoy and successfully complete this course progress onto the L3 Creative Media Production (Film and TV).
