Through in-house productions, industry based placements and hands-on training, you’ll learn all relevant skills relating to the work of the production technician in theatre, events, film and TV.
With technology at its core, this course offers practical, hands-on training in a variety of high-end lighting, sound, and video systems – skills that are in high demand for the theatre, events, film and television industries in Wales and across the rest of the UK.
You’ll have classes given by leading professionals operating at the top of their field, alongside several production placements, both based at the College and with our industry partners here in Wales.
With your placements, developing your expertise for a technical career in the creative industries is only one part of it. These experiences will also help you to build communication and team working skills that are essential to thriving in collaborative environments.
After graduation, you could take on roles such as a production electrician, lighting technician or programmer, sound and system engineer, video operator or programmer, among many more.

The National Youth Brass Band of Wales (NYBBW) was established in 1982 and has a long tradition of providing young brass banders with first-class training and performance opportunities.
NYBBW is a double sized band and numbers approximately 50 players. Members are drawn from across Wales and are auditioned annually in centres across Wales.
As with all NYAW ensembles, we pride ourselves in working with experts in the field of brass banding and our tutorial team are drawn from many of the top ranked bands in Wales and the UK. The Band has worked with well-known conductors who are leaders in their field, including Edward Gregson (founding conductor), Robert Childs and Philip Harper, conductor of the world famous Cory Band.
In line with many other similar organisations, National Youth Arts Wales charges a nominal fee of £25 for our auditions.
As part of our conference, we’re inviting Welsh artists and young industry to apply to take part in our Mentorship Programme which connects Welsh artists and industry with UK wide music industry specialists such as agents, managers, publishers, promoters, festivals, lawyers and producers.
The Mentorship Programme takes place at various venues in Cardiff City Centre from 16 – 18 October with the core face to face activity taking place on Thursday 16 and Friday 17 October.

Awards over £25,000 are a chance to get that almost-there piece in front of audiences. Perfect for artists who’ve had some funding but haven’t been able to get the work out there yet.
We want to help take it further, connect it with audiences, and make sure it’s seen in the places it deserves to be.
We’re looking to invest in work that will have a life beyond the initial commission. We expect all the work we fund to reach multiple audiences, as part of our wider mission to challenge and change the world.

You’ll be expected to have a minimum of 10% match funding* from other sources (which can be cash or in kind) for our larger awards (over £25k)
*This match funding cannot be from your regional arts council.
