The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Photography provides you with the skill, knowledge and visual understanding to succeed in this exciting and challenging industry. Our course gives you the opportunity to develop a wide range of technical skills on basic and advanced camera skills and full use of manual mode, skills in Adobe Photoshop, film-based photography, documentary, portraiture, studio, still life, darkroom, location lighting and fashion photography and more. We also help you develop visual awareness and attributes essential for employment in the industry or progression to Higher Education. Visits to local and national galleries form an important part of the course, and you are encouraged to take part in competitions, live briefs and exhibitions.
This is an ideal first qualification in Art and Design, which could lead to employment or further education. It allows you to re-take your GCSE in English and Maths while building up your Level 2 grade profile so you can progress to further studies at Level 3.

This vocational course combines industry practice and creative skills. You will study in our in-house Theatre and TV Studios, using our external hire and employer links to prepare for successful career progression. Media, Film and Photography are just few of the elements required to put together a staged production. This course looks at each of these and more, helping you develop skills that are transferable from an arena sized concert or a theatrical production all the way to small scale touring venue.
This course looks into the alternative side of the industry; business and people management alongside the more obvious aspects of the course such as stage management, theatre design, construction and operations.
We will teach you a wide range of skills required to successfully and skilfully put on stage/screen productions. From learning how to design and construct costumes to managing the wardrobe backstage on a live audience event or production.
There will be no shortage of hands-on experience on this course. You will work as a crew member in Kingston College's in-house theatre, gaining an understanding of design, operative and management roles and responsibilities.

Thrive 2024, offered by Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, is a professional development initiative designed for independent dance and music professionals. Tailored to the needs of early-career artists, this programme aims to cultivate a fresh network of peers, equip participants with essential skills for sustaining their artistic careers, and foster an entrepreneurial mindset through a series of workshops, discussions, mentorship, and training sessions.
Over the course of four intensive weekends at the Trinity Laban campuses in South East London, attendees will engage in a variety of sessions covering topics such as self-sustainability in the arts (including managing a diverse career portfolio, enhancing social media and marketing skills, navigating arts funding, and mastering financial management including tax and contracts), as well as specialised workshops focusing on technique and skill enhancement within their respective art forms.
Networking opportunities, with guest speakers and facilitators providing platforms for creative exchange, skill sharing, and personal and professional growth. Additionally, participants will benefit from mentoring and Action Learning Sets, receiving three hours of personalised guidance from seasoned professionals either online or in person throughout the programme.
Access to studio space for research and rehearsals during the summer months will be provided, with potential avenues to showcase created works to the rest of the cohort.

Units studied have a strong emphasis on experimentation and exploration allowing them to be tailored to your individual specialist practice.
You will have access to a range of facilities including studio spaces, printmaking workshops, textiles workshops, photography studios and state of the art equipment. To help you apply your skills you will be encouraged where possible to engage with the industry through competitions, live briefs, community work and employer engagement. Tutors are experienced and still work within the industry as artists and designers.
You will also have the opportunity to go on art based trips to places such as Liverpool, London and Berlin.
In year 1 you will have the opportunity to explore a diverse range of materials, techniques and processes to enable you to build a strong set of skills and knowledge across the areas.
In year 2 you will focus more on your chosen specialist area to create a strong portfolio of work accumulating in and end of year exhibition that is open to the public. During the course you will be guided through your progression options through talks, university visits and meeting ex-students. This is a technical qualification for anyone that wants to pursue a career providing hair and Makeup services in the film, TV, theatre and fashion industries. Push your creative boundaries and explore your options in this exciting space.
You’ll advance on the skills learned in the Media Makeup Level 2 course, with new technical modules including media Makeup, wigs and creative prosthetics (SFX). This course delves into fashion and editorial styles, where you’ll add skills like camouflage (covering up scars and tattoos), theatrical Makeup, period hair and Makeup, and advanced face and body art to your portfolio. You’ll also get to grips with current tools and equipment, with a focus on airbrushing to high industry standards.
The Level 3 Theatrical and Media Makeup course balances practical learning with theory. The theory arm comprises health and safety, anatomy and physiology, and cosmetic Makeup science.
A favourite unit among students, you’ll get the opportunity to build a total character. You’ll bring a particular concept to life, taking ownership of everything from face casting to sculpting, and creating and applying prosthetic pieces. You’ll be expected to blend your character’s face with Makeup and a wig or bald cap, and present your work in your portfolio.
Hugh Baird College students get the opportunity to take part in regional competitions across a range of categories, including bridal Makeup, editorial Makeup, face and body art, and face painting.
Beyond the classroom, you’ll get to visit art galleries and theatres for character development inspiration. We’re big on community at Hugh Baird College, so you can get involved in local events to see how they run, such as Halloween events and shows in Sefton Park.
Level 2 introduces the learner to carpentry and joinery skills. It allows candidates to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in carpentry or joinery.
On successful completion of the course students can progress on to a level 3 (T-Level) qualification in this subject, T-Level in Design, Surveying and Architecture or into employment in a related area.
