This is a dynamic and versatile course that will enable you to become a well-rounded creative art student and offers you the opportunity to explore and develop your artistic practice across a broad range of Art and Design specialisms. Units studied have a strong emphasis on experimentation and exploration allowing them to be tailored to your individual specialist practice.

You will have access to a range of facilities including studio spaces, printmaking workshops, textiles workshops, photography studios and state of the art equipment. To help you apply your skills you will be encouraged where possible to engage with the industry through competitions, live briefs, community work and employer engagement. Tutors are experienced and still work within the industry as artists and designers.

You will also have the opportunity to go on art based trips to places such as Liverpool, London and Berlin.

In year 1 you will have the opportunity to explore a diverse range of materials, techniques and processes to enable you to build a strong set of skills and knowledge across the areas.

In year 2 you will focus more on your chosen specialist area to create a strong portfolio of work accumulating in and end of year exhibition that is open to the public. During the course you will be guided through your progression options through talks, university visits and meeting ex-students. You will be supported through your UCAS application by our experienced team.

ProPortal is a brand-new and completely free online platform developed by Unity Theatre, Liverpool. The website has been created to diversify the UK touring circuit by bringing together artists and programmers who would normally struggle to connect.

At its simplest the ProPortal is a private, online library of performances available for tour and artists available for commission. Through ProPortal, programmers and producers at venues and festivals will be able to watch high-quality recordings of company work through this new YouTube-style platform.

Designed to make decision-making easier and more personalised, the portal allows productions to be filtered by genre, location, availability and staging, as well as features such as accessible performance options, community engagement packages and suitability for schools

The website is private and secure, meaning artists don’t need to worry about work being accessed by anybody they wouldn’t want to see it. Submission for artists is brief, saving endless cold-emailing or extensive travel costs.

The Open Programme offers lectures, workshops and short, practical courses in traditional arts and crafts.

We build young people’s creative, professional and leadership skills, particularly investing in those impacted by racism, classism, ableism and the intersection of these forms of discrimination.

The role of craft is continually evolving. As society rethinks our relationship with the planet and the impact of throwaway culture, the origin, quality and meaning of objects in our lives have never been more significant. Be part of the crafts resurgence that is committed to shaping a better future. Develop a personally sustainable practice, rooted in material understanding, drawing the best of the past but passionate for innovation. Think with your hands as well as your brain.

You will be encouraged to challenge the traditional notions of design craft, by investigating a wide variety of processes and exploring new ways of working with materials, objects and ideas. We support collaborative working across a range of disciplines, understanding how this can lead to exciting innovation and prepare students to forge new paths as independent makers, designers and entrepreneurs or carry craft values and practice into different fields of employment.

This course blends new design principles and an innovative approach to process, together with material knowledge and craft skills developed through hands-on making.

You will explore an ongoing dialogue between materials, process and ideas whilst advancing your skills within our specialist workshops. With regular sessions in wood, metal, ceramic and textiles you will develop expertise in key making practices.

You will be invited to respond to a rich and varied range of subjects including cultural, ethical and environmental issues. By taking part in a series of external projects you will improve your ability to create objects within a professional and critically reflective framework.
