The Diploma in Professional Marketing gives you the required knowledge, skills and understanding at management level to take a strategic approach to marketing planning. By understanding key marketing metrics and measurement techniques you will be able to interpret relevant insight and make informed strategic decisions.
This is a one year provision but you can start in September, January or April.
On successful completion of this course, you will be able to progress to Level 3 Hair and Media Make-up or to another course in the department (Hair or Beauty) Level 2 or 3 (course requirements and interview depending) then onto university to study a media make-up or special effects make-up degree. You could also enter employment in theatres, TV studios, cosmetic counters and on cruise ships.
This course provides an excellent grounding for those wishing to build a career as a make-up artist. This course consists of both hair and make-up modules including: make-up applications, hair preparation services, dressing and finishing hair, face and body art painting. You will have the opportunity to complete work for various competitions locally and nationally which have seen previous students take home numerous awards for their amazing designs. You will gain work experience in either a hairdressing salon or as a make-up artist.

BA Technical Arts for Theatre and Performance at Wimbledon College of Arts teaches you how to make life-sized props, animatronics and prosthetics for film, theatre and the wider entertainment industry.
BA Technical Arts for Theatre and Performance introduces you to a wide range of processes, techniques and practices within this field. The course covers 4 key areas:
- Concept and design
- Materials used within the field
- Design fabrication and assembly
- Interactive and applied technical arts practices
You will experience a range of techniques used within current industry. This will enable you to select and use appropriate methods and materials.
You will learn the art of efficiently developing suitable prototypes for the field and be able select the most effective way of realising a variety of design ideas as you progress through your studies.
Alongside practical work you will also look at creative research theories. These will include a scenographic approach to understanding objects in the contexts of environments and audiences. This will expand your knowledge of industry practices and extend your own ideas to place them within a wider field of performance making.
Your progression through the course will introduce you to current industry modes of making and designing. This will be complimented by trips to professional technical arts based production studios within the field of entertainment.
You will have an opportunity to define and refine your specialist area of interest so that you finish the course with a creative technical practice.
This Master’s programme is based at USW’s purpose-built campus, in the creative centre of Cardiff.
The MA Songwriting and Production course is delivered in the context of a thriving contemporary music and cultural scene in Wales. This innovative Songwriting and Production programme will inspire you to develop your own artistic voice, and make serious connections within the world of songwriting.
As well as offering numerous opportunities for collaboration, the course embraces the DIY philosophy of being able to fully produce your own original songs.
Designed for those interested in songcraft and studio production, you’ll learn a range of traditional and contemporary songwriting approaches, and have access to our well-equipped studios, rehearsal and writing rooms.
Your major project is reviewed and judged by an industry panel that includes our course ambassador, Gruff Owen CEO of Libertino Records.
Songwriting & Production and Blended Learning:
In most cases we prefer to be on campus, experiencing our songwriting workshops and creative events in real time. However, just like the rest of the music industry, we have had to rethink our approach and embrace new models to help minimise the risk. This has been an invigorating refresh, and one that has brought about new habits to embrace more permanently such as asynchronous songwriting co-writes, overseas guests beamed in via satellite, remote mixing and mastering etc.
This course is designed to encourage, nurture and promote the individual voice of the developing writer.
The theatrical landscape is constantly being moulded by theatre makers who are presenting original works or reimagining classics. Critical to this process is new writings and adaptations. On the Master in Fine Art degree in Playwriting at The Lir Academy, we offer every student the opportunity to develop and hone their unique writing skill so that each play written is the best it can be.
Modules in contemporary theatre practice, dramaturgy and workshops in writing, are supplemented with one-to-one training and development, so that each individual student has quality time with playwrights, directors and designers. The training culminates with the students writing a full-length play whilst being mentored by the Head of Playwriting, Graham Whybrow. Graham brings a wealth of experience to this role, including twelve years as Literary Manager of the Royal Court Theatre.
Excerpts of these final works are shared in a public event with an invited audience of industry professionals.
The course is designed to complement the existing Master in Fine Theatre Directing and the Master in Fine Art Stage Design including Lighting Design, Costume Design and Set Design. Students on all three programmes will work together in collaboration, developing a shared understanding of contemporary theatre practice and a collective appreciation of the dedication and commitment required to make innovative performances happen.
On completion of this postgraduate degree, you will qualify and graduate from Trinity College Dublin, The University of Dublin.
The MFA in Stage Design is a one-year programme with a practical focus for professionals looking to specialise in lighting, costume or set design.
The Stage Design programme is purposely designed to allow students to either specialise on one area of stage design (set, costume or lighting design) or to combine disciplines as desired for example, set and costume design or set AND lighting design.
The course is designed to complement the Master in Fine Art in Playwriting and the Master in Fine Art in Theatre Directing. Students on all three programmes will work together in collaboration, developing a shared understanding of contemporary theatre practice and a collective appreciation of the dedication and commitment required to make innovative performances happen.
In addition to the core classes and workshops, individual and group tuition from The Lir’s Head of Design will be a key feature of the training. In addition, master classes by visiting practitioners will supplement the student experience. Professional placements are a key feature of the programme and all students will showcase their work in public productions at the culmination of the course. Students can opt to take this course either part-time (24 months) or full-time (12 months).
Full-time and part-time students will take three concurrent modules in the first two terms. The final module (Production Design) will be taught in the third term and subsequent summer months (for full-time students) or in the second year of the course (for part-time students) and will culminate with a professional production staged in one of The Lir’s performance studios. Term Three will be supplemented by an ongoing series of master classes from professional directors and theatre makers.
Students on the Master in Fine Art (Stage Design) will take two compulsory modules and choose two of four elective modules.
On completion of this postgraduate degree, you will qualify and graduate from Trinity College Dublin, The University of Dublin.
Access to The Arts ™ is a national outreach and funding programme, run by READ College (a registered charity). Since the organisation was founded back in 2008, we have always whole-heartedly believed that the Performing Arts should be open to anyone who has the passion and drive to forge a career in the industry. All too often, however, people don’t see themselves reflected on stage and on screen, don’t know how to access training for a professional career, or simply cannot afford to train. That’s where Access to The Arts ™ comes in.
All of our outreach work is free to access and is delivered across the UK in communities identified as being under-represented or disadvantaged, and who can most benefit from our work. Our Widening Participation & Outreach Co-Ordinator, Amelia Stevenson, is an alumna of READ with a successful and creative career under her belt and delivers practical skills workshops, Q&A clinics and careers advice sessions in order to support people into further training. As a registered charity, there is no charge to any individual or organisation wishing to benefit from our outreach programme, and we welcome contact from schools, colleges, youth and community groups who would like to find out more about how we can help them and their young people. Workshops and courses range from a few hours to a few days depending upon the project, and our aim is to really encourage and support young people at the grass roots level to help them take the first steps into vocational training and to become artists in their own right.
Access to The Arts ™ also provides bursaries to overcome barriers to training for those who have successfully auditioned for full-time places at READ College’s Sixth Form and Foundation courses. Bursaries for READ are awarded on a means-tested basis, and are generated from charitable events, grants and donations. If you, your company, or anyone you know is able to support our work then you can make one-off or regular donations via our website.
This year Trinity Laban are offering 1 hour long individual online coaching sessions with the West End Professionals who make up Trinity Laban’s Musical Theatre department. Sessions available are in Acting, Singing and Preparing for Audition.
These sessions will be arranged at a time that suits you, simply book your place, let us know your availability for the week and we’ll match you with one of your tutors who can provide valuable insight into honing your skills. The sessions will be scheduled over three weeks in 2021:

This diploma is devised for talented students of 16 years and over who want to be successful in Musical Theatre and is a level six qualification validated by Trinity College, London.
The aim of the course is to develop our students into triple threats that can make it in the West End. We instil the versatile and dedicated work ethic into our students so they are able to achieve in the extremely demanding musical theatre industry.
We make sure students get the attention they deserve by making sure none of our class sizes exceed 16 students. This works in tandem with our intensive, exciting and extensive teaching of singing, acting and dancing.
Students will have weekly performance workshops, audition preparation and career development sessions. Every week students will take part in individual singing lessons that will develop their technique and repertoire. Keeping fit is an important aspect of performing at the highest level we ensure you have an excellent level of health and fitness through diagnostics, body conditioning, Pilates and nutrition sessions.
Expert teaching staff, guest lecturers and visiting directors ensure you continuously strive to meet your personal challenges. To help you maintain your high standards, individual progress is closely monitored. Regular tutorials and assessments ensure you receive continual feedback and support.
