What is the Bronze Award for Theatre Technicians?
The Bronze Award is a 5 day programme which gives candidates knowledge and understanding of best practice, whether they are working in regional rep, touring, multiart form studios, community theatre, the West End or as a freelancer. The Bronze Award delivers the first vocational step for professional development for the theatre technician and also opens opportunities to progress to other ABTT Awards.
Who can do the Award?
Both members and non-members are eligible, though ABTT members receive a discount. The ABTT Bronze Award is suitable for anyone with an interest in technical theatre, whether in a professional or amateur capacity. While no formal prior qualifications are required, this award is designed for those with a basic working familiarity with a theatre environment. It provides essential tools and knowledge to help newcomers and early-career team members safely and effectively work backstage.
How is the Award structured?
The Bronze Award consists of five 1-day courses, followed by the Bronze Award Assessment. Candidates who achieve a pass, merit, or distinction in the assessment will receive a Bronze Award Certificate and become eligible to apply for ABTT Silver Awards. Candidates who are unsuccessful this time or are unable to complete all 5 days of the programme are encouraged to continue working towards achieving the full Award certification by completing any outstanding training and the Award Assessment within 2 calendar years. Certificates of completion are available in the meantime, to recognise training days that have already been attended.

Ever wondered what really goes on behind the curtain at one of the world’s most iconic theatres? Join Shakespeare’s Globe for an inspiring and revealing session about life at the heart of a world-class arts organisation.
In this workshop, Angie and Tamsin will share: What a General Manager actually does; what it means to be a Producer; their own career journeys — and how you can get started; the different types of General Management across the industry; how GMs and Producers collaborate with each other and wider teams; what it’s really like to be a GM or Senior Producer at Shakespeare’s Globe. You’ll leave with practical insights, insider tips and a clearer picture of the paths into these fascinating roles. They’ll finish with an open Q&A, so you can put your own questions to Angie and Tamsin!

Discover the power of African storytelling and the universal power of personal stories in this dynamic, hands-on workshop led by award-winning producer and writer Lydia Idakula.
In this workshop, you will explore how personal experiences, history, culture and imagination can be transformed into compelling stories. Through conversation, creative exercises, film, writing and group discussion, you’ll explore themes of identity, belonging, memory and imagination, uncover the themes that matter most to you and begin developing your own original story idea.
Whether you’re an aspiring writer, performer, theatre-maker, or simply someone with a story to tell, this workshop offers practical tools for finding your authentic voice while introducing you to the richness and diversity of African storytelling traditions. No previous writing experience is required – just curiosity, creativity and a willingness to explore.

Calling all emerging theatre makers, students, creative facilitators, and actors!
How can we create theatre together in ways that celebrate linguistic and cultural diversity and recognise it as a creative resource?
Join Varshini Pichemuthu, Applied Theatre Practitioner and Creative Facilitator, for a practical artist development workshop exploring playful, participant-centered approaches to devising and creating work in multilingual spaces.
Drawing on Varshini’s experience facilitating with participants from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, the workshop will explore how movement, gesture, sound, play, storytelling and spoken language can offer different ways into communication and creativity. We’ll consider how we can honour the knowledge, experiences and creativity that participants already bring into the room, create opportunities for different forms of expression, and approach story-making with choice and agency at its heart.
Through practical exercises, games and collaborative devising, we’ll explore and share adaptable approaches for creating and facilitating in multilingual spaces. There will also be space to exchange ideas, reflect on our own practice and learn from the collective wisdom in the room.

Free Arts Award Programme for 13 - 16 year olds
Are you a 13 - 16 year old eager to unleash your creativity?
We are delivering a fantastic opportunity for young people to gain a nationally recognised Level 2 qualification while exploring their own artistic interests.
Through workshops, projects, and cultural experiences, participants will be supported every step of the way by experienced creative practitioners.
Key information:
The programme will run from October 2026 to May 2027. We will also be running half-term workshop days (10am – 3pm) in October half-term, February half-term and Easter!

We will soon be launching Young Vic Young Disruptors - a new programme for young people interested in producing and a career in theatre.
Young Vic Young Disruptors is a 3 month programme for 18-25 year olds living in London to learn new producing skills and programme their own event at the Young Vic.
Chosen participants will take part in weekly sessions at the Young Vic, learning fundamental and valuable skills in theatre producing. Using these new skills, they will then plan and run their own public-facing creative event in response to our Main House show dissent by debbie tucker green.
