This two-year course draws on QMU’s rich and highly respected teaching expertise within the performing arts and provides the training needed to pursue a contemporary career as an actor on stage and screen. It is an articulation route for students who have already achieved an HND Acting and Performance/Musical Theatre or who have completed two years of an appropriate degree.
On this course you will:
- Focus on intensive stage and screen actor training with additional options that allow you to expand your skills to include areas such as community theatre, playwriting, directing, devising and creative entrepreneurship.
- Experience practical and practice-led teaching methods to explore the ways in which the skills you already have can be developed and enhanced to embrace the demands of theatre, media and performance.
- Deepen your knowledge of the fundamental skills of acting, voice, movement, textual analysis and interpretation, examining the ways in which they are deployed and synthesised to create character and performance, on stage, screen and in media work.
- Engage with current industry professionals and organisations.
This course enables you to convert an appropriate existing qualification into a degree and is equivalent to years three and four of an honours degree. You will complete a range of modules each year as outlined.
The Level 3 Performing Arts course is a practical qualification assessed on work created for performance projects and supported by developing a knowledge of the industry and career routes. In Year One you will study the Foundation Diploma (equivalent to 3 AS Levels) and in Year Two you will complete your studies in the Extended Diploma (equivalent to 3 A-Levels). There are no external exams within this qualification.
You will begin your journey with our theatre company by developing your performance skills culminating in a live performance to a public audience in October. You will develop acting, dancing and singing skills as you continue your journey working towards a Christmas pantomime performed to the general public and in matinee performances aimed at children recreating the industry standard of multiple performances each day. You will then explore crucial styles of performance in dance and theatre creating professional standard work for recording. You will conclude your first year in our theatre company by creating an original piece of contemporary performance and an adaptation of a classical text which reimagines the work for a modern audience. This work will be showcased in our end of year week-long Festival celebrating performing arts.
In Year One you will explore a range of specialisms (dance, drama, song) in order to broaden and develop your skills and understanding of the breadth of the industry. In Year Two you will work towards a chosen specialism to develop a solo showcase and marketing portfolio. You will then create your own theatre company and develop a piece of performance for inclusion in the end of year week-long Festival celebrating performing arts.
Throughout your studies you will explore the wider industry, employment opportunities, progression options, including specialist drama and dance schools. You will also have the opportunity to widen your skills working front of house and backstage on performances and events to further improve your experience.
The BA (Hons) Diverse Dance Styles programme is IRIE! dance theatre’s flagship course - the first ever BA course in the UK that places equal emphasis on African, Caribbean, Contemporary and Urban dance techniques.

The BA (Hons) Dance Performance top-up course is structured around the needs of the professional performing dancer in a diverse creative economy. The course will guide you in the development of your technical and performance skills to a high professional standard. Working with leading professionals across the dance industry, you will train in styles such as commercial, contemporary, ballet, jazz, and musical theatre. While the focus of the course is performance and technical training, you will also expand on your skills in choreography, self-promotion, and academic writing to prepare you for the ever-changing demands of the professional dance world.
This programme aims to further your understanding of dance performance, allowing you to become a dance practitioner with comprehensive knowledge of the cultural, creative, and technical elements of your art form. If you are a committed performer that enjoys the challenges of creating and performing innovative dance, then this course is for you!
This programme is an intense year of study, consisting of four modules designed to equip you with the transferable skills required for professional dancers. There are multiple opportunities throughout the year to perform and showcase your own choreography. Each year will feature a performance project led by an industry professional in which you will be directly involved in every stage of development from the initial conception to the final performance.
Our BA Hons (Top up) in Dance is run in partnership with University West London.

Mountview’s Foundation training in Musical Theatre finely balances core technique across acting, singing and dance, while developing creativity and artistic identity. It is all about helping you discover your own creative resources, and developing the technique needed to progress onto further vocational training.
New for September 2022, Mountview’s Manchester-based Foundation Course in Musical Theatre will take place at Z Arts in Manchester, a much-loved arts centre with a range of resident companies, activities for young people and performances. This is an exciting new venue for Mountview’s world-class Musical Theatre training and a great opportunity for those interested in exploring drama school training in the north.
You will receive 30 to 36 hours of teaching each week over two terms. The training includes focused audition preparation, allowing students to develop technique and repertoire for future drama school auditions. The course offers 60% skills classes and 40% project-based work.
DSL’s PGDIP/MA Professional Acting is an intensive and comprehensive preparation for entry into the 21st century performance industries.
Working in small groups, the course is delivered through entirely practical, vocational classes, workshops and rehearsals which lead to focused performance projects. These sessions immerse you in the methods and approaches of British and European performance practice as they apply to and influence the contemporary theatre landscape. Expressive and technical skills are developed for work across video and audio media throughout the course, alongside developing your own core vocal and physical practice. You are encouraged and enabled to explore and take control of your own working process and expressive potential, rather than following a single methodology or attaining an idealised voice and body. You can expect to evolve an adaptable, broad ranging and immediately employable skillset for the profession.
