We want you to be a versatile, creative and innovative actor, capable of creating your own opportunities.
We offer training that prepares actors for rehearsal, performance, production, interdisciplinary creation and industry engagement. Working in challenging scenarios with traditional and innovative practitioner approaches, you expand your psychological and physical processes to hone your acting methodology. You experience classic and contemporary works, alongside commissioned new writing, giving you the chance to bring characters to life for the first time.

You collaborate with external professionals and students from other disciplines to realise full, professional-scale productions. You also develop self-employment, enterprise and interpersonal skills.

As an emerging actor we want to strengthen your essential skills, knowledge and audition techniques so you can improve your chances of successfully progressing to further study at one of the highly competitive drama schools/specialist Higher Education providers.
You undertake an intensive, highly practical and pragmatic 24-week course where preparation is key. You develop your individuality and authenticity as an actor, while generating a portfolio of contemporary, classical and musical material. You also put all you have learnt in to practice in a final performance project in one of our main production spaces. This course equips you with storytelling and stylistic skills, self-belief and industry knowledge to help you stand out from the crowd.

The Laine Theatre Arts Foundation Diploma in Dance and Musical Theatre is an intensive 28 week vocational training course. It is designed for students of 16+ years who may lack either the level of knowledge or experience required to become strong contenders for a place on their chosen performing arts diploma or degree course and/or the accompanying personal, psychological strengths. The focus is to build a sturdy base of technical skill in dance, singing and acting whilst developing a strong work ethic and allowing self-confidence to grow as a result of increased knowledge and understanding.

The Foundation Course is also the beginning of a longer journey – the exploration of a student’s own unique sense of individuality.

Throughout the course, students will study a full timetable of traditional and commercial jazz, classical ballet, contemporary, acting, singing technique and audition/interview preparation. Students are nurtured through the college application/audition process and are offered career advice in personalised 1-1 tutorial sessions throughout the course, guiding them towards the next stage in their development and/or training. Most of our past students would agree that the Foundation Course is intense, both mentally and physically, but that the resulting sense of achievement and progression is highly rewarding. They have often been noted for the professionalism of their approach when they move on to further training courses and we are very proud that a many ex-students describe their time on the Foundation Course as ‘the best year of my life so far’.

Validated by the University of Portsmouth

This innovative, one-year programme has been designed to enable committed performers to extend their understanding of musical theatre production. The course offers students and practitioners the opportunity to explore aspects of musical theatre not usually addressed in vocational training and provides access to further HE study and enhanced employment opportunity when considering career progression.

The course programme is flexible and adaptable and has been designed to accommodate professional working patterns. Following a two-day Induction at LTA’s Performing Arts Centre, students meet with tutors on one Sunday a month at a Campus Study Day (CSD) for a day of workshops, seminars, lectures and one-to-one tutorials. A comprehensive, online tutorial system ensures students receive full support and guidance from Personal tutors as they work on written research projects in the periods between CSDs.

Running from September to May each year, the course comprises three units: Research and Development in Musical Theatre Practice; Critical Analysis of Musical Theatre in Production and Production in Musical Theatre Practice.

All Diploma students work towards a vocational qualification in Musical Theatre or Dance.

The College aims to provide the broadest possible musical theatre and dance training, majoring on a student's individual talents and giving each student personal attention.

This enables them to graduate with professional confidence secure in the knowledge that they are prepared for whatever the industry demands of them.

The duration of our Diploma course is three years and the minimum age of entry is 16.

Certificate of Higher Education, Introduction to Acting, at Italia Conti will enable you to experience the rigours of vocational training and enable you to make informed choices about your future.

You will train in the professional and disciplined environment of a leading drama conservatoire and profit from the knowledge and experience of Italia Conti’s teaching faculty.

Individual sessions working on interview technique and monologue preparation will help to maximise your chances of success in future auditions. You will be encouraged to develop a self-reliance and independent working process on a programme that emphasises the importance of respect within the rehearsal room, generosity and a shared passion. Above all, Italia Conti aims to generate a secure and nurturing training environment that will allow you to be creatively fearless.

A series of organised theatre visits and excursions will develop your awareness and appreciation of current theatre practice. You will learn how to critically evaluate contemporary performance and to express your ideas with clarity and confidence, thereby improving your self-promotional skills.

Much of your work on the programme will be devoted to vocal and physical training, to the exploration of a range of techniques for creating and developing character and to working responsively within the space.

The modern actor is not a puppet who regurgitates words and movements for an audience, but a creative artist who uses their inner resources to create truthful fictions and constantly seeks new ways to communicate. Part of the programme will teach you to be original and individual in your work, to reinvent old techniques and to develop new ones.

Italia Conti's BA (Hons) Acting Programme does not seek to mould actors to any one method or system of Acting, rather, it makes available to its students a wide range of ideas and training methods, so that each student can construct a personal ‘tool box’ of methods of working.

The programme aims to produce versatile performers who can work in as wide a range of styles and media as possible.

The programme has clear theories about training and performance and upholds philosophies about the role of Theatre in society which permeates the teaching.

Level 6 Diploma in Professional Dance at Italia Conti aims to produce highly skilled, creative and thinking dance artists and provides students with a comprehensive training in all aspects of dance.

The course will give you the necessary technical, creative and performance experience and skills necessary to become a professional dancer. This is achieved through a rigorous curriculum, focused on studio-based practice and creative exploration, underpinned by key elements of contextual study.

The training programme offers core skills in a range of dance genres and skills, supplemented by supporting subjects that enable students to pursue their own interests.

Workshops and masterclasses throughout the course offer students the opportunity to work with a wide range of professionals who specialise in particular areas of dance.

Public performances and an Industry showcase consolidate everything that has been learnt in the classroom and gives students the confidence and experience to perform in front of an audience.
