The UAL Level 2 Award/Diploma in Performing and Production Arts (Acting Pathway) is a course designed to develop students' potential for working in the acting profession and prepare them for future qualifications.

During this fast paced, practical one-year course, students will cover a wide range of performance skills, contextual activities related to acting and will also be given the opportunity to be involved in public performances. The method of learning is a mixture of both tutor led and practical sessions.

Those enrolled on the course will study a range of acting styles and apply these to on stage performances, as well as advancing their theatrical production skills. There will also be a focus on enhancing their ability to carry out research to further knowledge and understanding of plays, characters, key theatre practitioners and the performing arts industry.

The course is taught by subject specialists, and you will be working both independently and in small groups, utilising our state of the art facilities. There may also be opportunities for students to attend external performances or workshops with local theatres. There may also be the chance to take part in the National Theatre Connections festival at the Royal & Derngate.

In some sessions, skills development or projects, you may work alongside other Performing Arts L1 & L2 students. This reflects industry practice and behaviours.

The UAL Level 1 Diploma in Music, Performing and Production Arts is an exciting and vibrant introduction to the world of Performing Arts.

This practical one-year course is designed to give students who wish to pursue performing arts the opportunity to broadly explore the world of theatre arts practice, develop performance abilities and test their creative potential. For those new to performing arts, it aims to enhance self-confidence and communication skills, along with providing an insight into career demands and opportunities within the sector. Students will explore materials, methods and processes that support performing and production activities, and will begin to expand their skills. Some skills development may be delivered alongside L1 Music students or other L2 disciplines as appropriate.

This course is perfect if you want to develop your practical musical theatre and dance skills and gain a working knowledge of the dance world.

This course is perfect if you have a talent for acting, dance and singing and want to pursue this as a career. You’ll learn a mixture of dance styles, acting techniques, and a wide variety of music repertoire on a course designed to develop you as a well-rounded, triple theatre musical theatre performer.

You can expect experienced tutors to help you develop the necessary skills required to be successful as a musical theatre performer. You will study: ballet, tap and jazz dance, singing, acting, devising and character work, while working alongside other students to develop your skills and knowledge.

This course is perfect if you’re a talented performer, want a career in the performing arts, and are looking to further develop your skills.

You’ll learn high-level skills to enable you to pursue a career in the performing arts industry, including: rehearsing, acting, devising, voice, acting for TV and film, movement, physical theatre, character study and directing.

You can expect experienced tutors with huge amounts of industry experience to support you with a wide variety of practical projects, covering a mixture of theatrical and acting styles, plus opportunities to work alongside other students to create your own work.

This is is a course for anyone with a desire to have a career in acting or the performing arts and can be studied alongside a combination of other qualifications. The course is equivalent to 1 A-Level.

Students who successfully complete this course can use the qualification to enter a specialist area of employment or to progress to higher education, drama school, HND or other professional development programme.

The course is a two-year A-Level programme

You don’t need GCSE Drama to take Drama and Theatre Studies at Bilborough Sixth Form College. What you will need, though, are a strong level of performance or design, a creative approach to productions and the ability to evaluate a performance. We follow the new Edexcel specification and work in classes of no more than 21 students – usually fewer. You’ll learn in a purpose-built studio theatre with stage lighting and sound, and flexible raked seating to create a variety of performance spaces. We also have an open-air amphitheatre and a specialist technical assistant. You can combine this subject with Performance Studies and / or Dance if you wish. (Drama & Theatre Studies is concerned with the whole area of theatre – including production and performance – whereas Performance Studies is concerned with contemporary dance, music and drama.)

As well as this, we will prepare you for your next steps towards the industry helping you hone your audition skills and teaching you how to network and operate as a performer. As part of this we will help you find industry relevant work experience.

This course is designed for those who are interested in developing their knowledge and understanding of theatre through workshops and performance opportunities.

This course is a full-time programme split over two years:

Year 1 - The National Foundation Diploma.

Year 2 - Extended Diploma.

Following successful completion of the National Foundation Diploma in year 1 you may then be able to progress to a second year of study on the Extended Diploma.

The full Extended Diploma is the equivalent to three A Levels and highly suitable for preparing students for university entry.

The diploma course concentrates on exploring the three main disciplines of musical theatre (singing, dancing and acting) and developing the fundamental skills needed to produce quality performance work. Continuing to the extended diploma, you will be able to continue to develop your skills and understanding of the performing arts industry.

Cost: Free for 16 to 18 year-olds. If you are aged 19 to 23 and studying your first Level 3 course then this course may be free. The annual fee for all other students aged over 19 is £2882.
