Our Theatre and Performance degree allows you to explore a combination of core and optional modules so that you can pursue your individual interests and develop your talents. You’ll work as part of a group to create a wide variety of performances – from plays or originally devised work, to comedy shows and multimedia productions.
In the first year of your programme, you’ll learn the basic acting and theatre making skills and key forms of theatre practice, along with associated theories and debates. You’ll hone your skills in physical and vocal performance as well as critical and reflective writing.
As you progress through your studies, you’ll examine theatre and performance in a variety of optional modules, from radio production to theatre directing, from Shakespeare to new trends in theatre and performance. You’ll be given the support and guidance needed to work independently, manage your own time and collaborate creatively with your fellow students – all of which are vital skills for performers and transferable skills that are valued by employers.
On this course, you’ll learn through a mix of lectures, seminars, workshops and practical performance projects, with assessments including essays, presentations and publicly performed theatre projects, which are produced in our own theatre studio and 350-seat New Adelphi Theatre.
Our intensive MA Acting course offers you practical actor training focusing on technical skills in acting, voice and movement. These support a range of rehearsal projects, screen acting projects and public performances. You’ll also take professional development workshops to help build a bridge between your training and the profession. Your performance opportunities will include a short film project, a public production, and an industry showcase.

BA Theatre is a unique conversion course that recognises your previous study or your work experience, enabling you to complete your BA degree in a year. Our BA (Hons) Actor-Musician course is run by Guildford School of Acting (GSA), one of the most highly regarded theatre schools in the UK. You’ll be taught by industry-leading professionals, and join a vibrant community of talented individuals.
We’ll develop your combined talents as an actor and a musician, including the versatility to work professionally as an actor or actor-musician in a wide range of theatrical contexts.
On our BA (Hons) Actor-Musician course, you’ll develop performance skills in acting, musicianship, dance, voice and singing, alongside essential critical and analytical work.
In your first year, you’ll strengthen core skills in acting, dance, singing, voice and music. With classes in all disciplines and project work on storytelling, ensemble work, modern text, screen acting and musical theatre.
In your second year, you’ll work on diverse texts, ranging from classical theatre to musical theatre, with musicianship skills integrated within all your studies. Voice, singing, music and dance skill classes continue and broaden the technical base of your training.
In your third year, you’ll work on three main projects: a play, a musical and a classical piece, alongside a showcase of your work, connecting you with casting directors and agents across the creative industries.
